To Train Up A Child - your thoughts? WARNING - may be upsetting to read

This thread has been playing on my mind all day. After I posted earlier I read the links and I just can't believe how cruel or evil some people can be.

I even typed in the name of the book in the book site I use and there are almost 350 copies listed on there (people use the site to catalogue their home libraries etc and talk to other people).

Ten of those people have reviewed the book and sadly they all seem to think it's a great book full of good advice.

I just can't understand how anyone can follow this book. One of the people reviewing it even said that the people objecting to the advice to smack a breastfeeding baby with a stick if it bites the mother have obviously never been bitten, otherwise they would agree.

How can anyone suggest smacking a baby?

So that could really mean a 5/6/7 month old baby??

I think it could even mean a newborn. Some are born with teeth but I think by bite they meant any sort of action that hurt the mother while feeding, with or without any teeth. The person writing the review said this as part of their review:

"Negative comments about this book are from individuals that either do not believe the Bible to be the infallible word of God, do not have children, or their current parenting strategy is fine for them. I find particularly interesting the criticism of the nipple-biting strategy. This person has never had their aching swollen nipple bitten by a baby."

Breastfeeding didn't work out for us but from what I remember and what I learned on here, once things to start to go smoothly you shouldn't have an "aching swollen nipple" unless you have mastitis or something. It's usually problems at the begining before you learn what you are doing that cause nipples to feel like that. Which would indicate a newborn to me :nope:

I feel like ringing the police tbh - but obv have no idea who these people are or anything! I just think something should be done!

i know I wish I could find out where every single one of them live and report them

^Same, its like with that book that was basically a guide to paedophilia. Surely Amazon can track sales and hand the information over to the police or SS and have those families investigated? Unfortunately it seems they dont care that much :( Its so sad

ETA: Or maybe just the ones who gave rave reviews of it

Um, I can't remember what it was called... There was a thread about it in Baby Club I think. It was very graphic and very disturbing. It was basically a how-to guide :nope: I THINK Amazon removed it but I'm not sure

It was removed

omg, it WAS actually called "A paedophiles guide"
They need to investigate every single person that bought THAT book too!

What. The. HELL IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD!!

A paedophiles guidebook?? I dont actually have the words...

you know whats scary?
(a little OT but on the topic of people being sick fucks like these people!)

reading the news paper today (and i'm from a small town, population of about 200 people)
- a guy i went to school with got charged for child pornography
- a man who sexually assulted numerous children between 2002 and 2008 had his trial delayed
- and a man who plead guilty to raping my friends 14 year old sister 6 times plead guilty in court.

ALL in MY neighbourhood WTF?! I'm thankful I don't think there any more!!!!!!!

 I sometimes feel bad for bringing my kids into this world, because it can be such an evil place.

 I sometimes feel bad for bringing my kids into this world, because it can be such an evil place.

you know what, many many times during the pregnancy and even now, i watch my LO sleeping, and wonder what have i done?

i remember the pain and hurt and the bad times i went through, and i look around me and see that its getting so much worse, and i feel so horrible, so bad for bringing him into this world, knowing that he may experience something truely horrible.

breaks my heart and makes me feel so guilty

I work for a police unit that deals only with serial murder. When I first started working there, I decided there was no way I was having kids. The kind of stuff I saw and heard at work was so disturbing I thought there was just no way I could bring children into such a scary world. It wasn't until my best friend had her first son that I realized what I would be missing if I didn't have children.
I go back to work when she's 1, and I'm really worried that I won't be able to handle it anymore, or I'm going to be consumed by fear of something terrible happening to her. :(

aww hun :hugs: I hope it wil be okay when you go back.
if you went back and you were that uncomfortable I'd either ask to be switched somewhere in the office where I didn't have to look at pictures, or relocate.

On the plus side, that is a really cool job! I always wanted to do something like that growing up, but its just not big/populated enough around here for there to be jobs like that available.
Plus as far as patrol officers go, i'm not too keen on how *most* (not all) RCMP and HRP seem to do their job. (not sure what things are like in other fields though but I think in Halifax those units are soo small, like only 2 people or so for the proviince)

Although I am non religious myself I was brought up in a religion, and the thought was always spare the rod spoil the child. - but later on, after smacking became so controversial, the religion changed its view on what the bible was actually saying, and said in the bible the rod of discipline was meaning the rod a shepherd would use to guide his sheep into the fold, - a shepherd did not his his sheep but used the rod as a barrier to guide them along the right path. - religious or not, that is a sensible way of interpreting 'rod of discipline' - its amazing how brainwashed some people allow themselves to get - this smacks of Jonestown on a smaller scale, first get the parents showing blind obedience then knock it into the children. - of course you can make people do what you want by torturing them. - wheres the rocket science? - its so sad that some parents are so blind.
at the same time there will always be fanatics, and no matter what religion they are in they will get a sick thrill over wielding power and reigning over their kids in a tyrannical fashion - thats not religion thats people using it as an excuse. - in this case some parents would interpret that book to mean, have a discipline stick on hand so the kids dont misbehave - rather like the strap in the headmasters office that never got used, but scared kids enough to behave.
if teachers still had the power or policemen to give kids a good 'clip round the ear' then there would be far less Antisocial behaviour, but as usual, there will always be people in the profession who would abuse that and get a kick out of punishing people - and go to the total extreme. its so sad that these stories are those of tragedy and horror, rather than that of prevention.

Its bloody disgusting, can anyone from south dakota report that woman on the facebook page to social services.... i can actually type to much as I think I might be sick
