Warning All Pregnant Women: Miscarriages From H1N1 Vaccine As High As 3,587 Cases

Sory ladies, I really wasn't trying to cause upset. I just feel it is so important to know the risks of this vaccine.

RANT ALERT******
I am quite concerned about this post!!!
I've just read through the article and to be honest it seems like scare mongering to me.
There is no proof in this article that those miscarriages and still births were caused by the H1N1 vaccine, all it actually says is that a certain number of women who had recieved the vaccine had miscarriages/still births. Whilst this is very sad and a horrible thing for any woman to have to go through, how many of these women would have miscarried if they hadn't had the jab.
If you are going to vaccinate a large number of pregnant women then it follows that a percentage of them will have miscarriages (whether or not they have been vaccinated).

All this article does is give you scary statistics and big words and hope that people will believe what they are saying. The decision to vaccinate is a very personal thing, and scaremongering like this doesn't help women make sensible informed decisions.

I'm all for the H1N1 vaccine. I did my reasearch and am happy with my decision and no silly article with statistics from the National Coalition of Organized Women is going to make me feel bad about it. (Seriously!!! World health organisation vs NCOW, who are you going to believe???) If (god forbid) anything happens to my baby I will not be blaming it on the vaccine.

Ok....that was a lot longer than I meant it to be.

No offence to the OP....I'm just P****d off at the people who wrote the article in the first place!

^^ Totally agree, 100%.
Scare tactics, and (IMO) not reputable information...also don't think it's exactly a reputable source.

I just wanted to say that I don't think this article should make you worry if you've had the vaccine earlier in your pregnancy - it doesn't say anywhere that it is leading to problems with the fetus later in pregnancy. If you are still continuing fine in your pregnancy then obviously your baby wasn't affected. My sister had the vaccine while pregnant with her little boy and they are both fine. I personally decided not to get it - I based this on doing a heck of a lot of research and deciding what I felt was right for me. I also based it on the fact that the H1N1 has not been where I live for a long time and seems to have died down a lot. I think that it is good to share info that is released - the more info you can have the better I say!

i just skip any/all vaccines while pregnant. even not pregnant im still iffy about the flu jabs

I personally won't be taking anything seriously from a body called the National Coalition of Organized Women...

I think this is totally inappropriate to put up in this forum, while I appreciate the OP may be trying to warn women who can't decide whether to have it- it is the worst bloody thing a woman who has had it in pregnancy could read. I didn't even have the jab and I am annoyed at this thread! I'm sure the Daily Mail will be all over this tomorrow- on the page after their prediction of the apocalypse.

Totally agree i wanted to say something but wasn't sure how to word it.

Whos to say that the jab was the direct link to those women studied? Did any of these women in the study have underlying health problems that could of caused their loss? At the end of the day no one will know for sure and its hard to do studies like this because regardless of having the jab or not women will sadly lose their babies and you can't get an accurate result due to this. x

I had the vaccine on Tuesday. I can't risk myself getting the flu and I'm in a house with toddlers and I babysit a third toddler, we all had the swine flu last year and it was horrible.

at the risk of sounding stupid why did you get the vaccine if you already had swine flu??? the jab would be useless if you already had the flu because your immune system will have banked it and levels of antibodies will now be in your system...

Im supposed to get the flu shot soon...prob next week but reading this worries me. I dont know if its information I should believe...but I worry about taking chances. :-/ I dont want anything to happen to my little man. Im 30 weeks...so not too much longer to go. :-/

Has anyone had the current flu shot later in pregnancy with no issues caused for thee baby?

suprise preg: Talk to your midwife and/or Dr about the vaccine. Please don't rely on articles like this.

my MW said it was fine for me not to get it as lots of preg woman refuse it xxx

I am not for or against this but,

I didn't get one during my pregnancy (and this was during the "height" of H1N1 fear) because of things I read about the vaccine. In hindsight, I am lucky I did not contract it because I think I should have gotten it (based on research from reputable sources).

People need to understand where these reports come from - this article, preventdisease.com <-- Look at the front page. First article: "Why Antiviral Drugs And Vaccines Are Useless: Flu Viruses Can Mutate Overnight" (Not relating to pregnancy). So you are already looking at an anti-vaccine source.

Women need to do what is right for them, whether that be to get it or not, just make sure to check a wide variety of sources before determining anything. This article basically states that all instances were not reported on, it did not state that the vaccine causes miscarriage/still birth. It means the data is not there.

I do, in general, tend not to trust articles such as this...but I find myself very hesitant to take any medications during my pragnancy. However my doctor has told me I need to get the flu shot and most research I have done generally says thats its safe and benificial to both you and the baby. I am planning to get the vaccine without the mercury preservative added but I still find myself nervous though. :-/

I don't ever get the flu shot, nor do my children. I was paralyzed from Guillain-Barre which can be a side effect. Mine didn't come from the flu shot, but my doctor is adamant that I never have it for the chance of re-occurence. My kids only get the required vaccines for school, so they don't get chicken pox vaccine, or flu shots. Nor did my daughter get the Guardisil shot.

I think you should consult your doctor/midwife about whether or not you need to get the H1N1 vaccine. I got it last year (wasn't pregnant) and I will be discussing getting it this year with my doctor on Tuesday. If there is concern from my doctor I will get the vaccine after the baby is born.

Rantish part...not trying to offend. I think blindly posting stuff like this is irresponsible and may actually cause more harm then good. People will see a semi credible name, semi credible sources and make snap judgements that may affect their health without properly researching or more importantly discussing it with a healthcare professional. I wouldn't want that on my head at all.

im not sure about the Guardisil shot yet i need to do more research but yeah she wont be getting chicken pox or the flu shots

I had this vaccine @ 14 weeks pregnant because of the amount of women who lost their baby's and in some cases their own lives in Australia in 2009 as a result of contracting the virus. I'm glad I had it and as you can see, I'm still very much pregnant!

Its a forum, she is entitled to post. No matter how accurate/inaccurate the article is. There are many crazy points of view on this forum but no one should be censored.

I personally would rather eat my own arm than get the untested swine flu vaccine. It was after the so called epidemic they "offered" it to me. No chance..

Flu mutates every year(its very clever) so you have to have a shot every year. :)

I refused my shot, however it had nothing to do with articles such as this :)

My OH went into some pretty heavy research on the swine flu vaccine last year and we decided against it. There were some issues we had with it and we just werent comfortable. I do think there should have been more information made public at the time to allow people to make an informed choice, I do think there was too much scaremongering made about the actual flu itself. In most well developed countries less people died from swine flu than the normal dose of yearly flu.

And not intending to scare or worry anyone that gave it to there kids but here in Finland the actual swine flu vaccine is currently banned until some research is completed. They are currently linking it to an increase in narcolepsy, especially among children (figures for the illness this year are much higher than average). They have also pointed out that narcolepsy can be caused by other factors but they currently cant ignore the direct links. Im very glad they are looking into it and there will be a definate answer in the future.

I don't know about other countries, but in the U.S., the 2010-11 flu jab INCLUDES the swine flu vaccine. It's all in one. So if you're going to vaccinate, you're getting both.

That said, I really wish people would first do research into adequacy of supposed research before spreading it virally (no pun intended). This is not a study. It's based on a self-reporting system that anyone can participate in w/o any professional supervision or advice. It's such rubbish.
