Beach Bump Graduates!

Hi Everyone!!! Sorry I've been missing in action over here! I've got my hands full with a boobie monster! There is no possible way I can catch up on all of the previous pages, so I think I'll just start here if that's okay!

Although I do want to say a huge congrats to MummyMarsh on you BFP!!!

So....got home from the hospital last week....recovering well I think, but the section scar is quite horrid looking still...they went directly over my last scar...it's all lumpy and bumpy and bruised. I have been taking some regular post partum pics to upload in a week or two....have to say that my tummy us not shrinking quite as fast this time. Would love to see others post baby belly pics!!

Max is great! The section went well, hospital stay was awful, couldn't wait to get out of there...they even lost my shoes!?! How does that happen?? He is feeding non stop, I don't think I have slept in a few days...not sure, it's all a blur...I think sometimes I nod off when he's feeding...but at least he is gaining lots of weight! He gained 6oz in 4 days! Feeding still hurts and every morning at 4am I want to go buy some formula and hand him off to daddy but I am trying to hang in there hoping it gets easier. I had to FF Audrey, so am really trying to do it this time around. Anyway....just wanted to check in. I hope you all are doing well....I will try to be around more often now hopefully as things get a bit easier. Although my hubby is going away again... :( 10 days, then home for 4, then away for another week. boohoo....

And...to my due date buddy Simmy!! 15 days overdue!! Well done girl! You're my hero!! Congrats on baby Leo!

Oh yeah, one more thing....sorry for the monster long one sided post.... it's a good thing I didn't go into labor!! My dr said that my uterus was stretched so thin around the section scar that had I actually gone into labor things could have been very bad... and I would have most definitely needed an emergency section! And my fluid was absolutely gone by the time I had my section. There was nothing cushioning the baby at all....he has some foot and hand issues now because of this, but we are seeing a physiotherapist so hopefully they will correct the problems. On the plus side...if I decide to have another baby I will have my next section at 38 weeks! That's a big plus after being 10 days overdue! No VBAC's in my future! Sometimes things just work out the way they are supposed to. :flower:

Wooooooo MM!!! Congratulations!!!!! :happydance::bfp::dance::headspin::yipee::wohoo::bunny: Here's to a happy and healthy 9 months! :)

:hugs: to everyone with poorly wounds, I hope you all heal soon, it must be awful!

I hope Elliot feels better soon bless him xx

Congratulations to everyone who's had their babies since I was last on- I'm hoping I haven't missed anyone but thought I'd congratulate you all just in case lol!

Does anyone else have fast let down? Naomi de-latched yesterday and my milk was like a water pistol and sprayed all over her face and kept spraying for a couple of minutes- I couldn't stop it so I just held a muzzy over it :dohh: Poor Naomi was a real milk chops!

Is anyone using re-useable breast pads? I'm using disposables atm and I hate them! Any recommendations?

Hope everyone's enjoying their weekend!
xx

Hi ladies quick question - when can you DTD after having a c section? Do I need to wait until I see my GP for the six week check up? Thanks! xx

Caz- my dr told me no sex for 6 weeks after section due to risk of infection.

Doodle....that mental picture of spraying milk everywhere made me laugh...nope,my boobs don't do that yet...Poor Naomi!!

Caz - I think as long as you feel ready and are careful with your scar you can do it. My friend said she did it a week later! I on the other hand could be waiting months until I can due to my big oozy open wound arrgghhh!!!

Doods - I've been using disposable lasinoh ones, they do the trick but are a bit scratchy. Washable ones would be more comfy!

Caz - I was not told that you cant so therefore have. :)

Jenni - Good to hear from you, glad little Max is doing well. Is Audrey enjoying being a big sister?

Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather.

Thanks guys! I might ask the doctor as I need to go this week to the surgery as I have a terrible rash (had it since he was born) all over my body (sorry, sounds gross I know) and the pharmasist thinks that I might have caught some infection in the hospital so need to get it checked out.

Not sure if I'm ready yet but wondered that was all as want to try and get back to normal as soon as possible!

I also used the laninsol disposable pads and thought they are great. I ran out and have Tommy Tippee (not sure if that is the name) ones and they aren't as good in my opinion. I find the disposables fine and comfy.

Doods - I definately don't get any spray but I'm not BF'ing anymore, only expressing so I guess my supply is decreasing all the time now as he isn't latching on anymore.

Thanks! I haven't tried the Lansinoh ones so I'll give those a go, I've used the avent ones and wasn't that impressed, I was in a rush the other day so grabbed some superdrug ones and they're awful!

I have no idea abput sex after a c-section, I imagine if you feel up to it I don't see why not.

I love your new avatar pic Jenni! x

Doods my favourite are the johnson ones as they're so soft, I'm stuck with tommee tippee atm because they didn't have any johnsons in the shop. I want reusable but it's buying enough to last really!! I have a fast let down but it stops when he unlatches, I used to spray Saraya in the face all the time though!! Makes me laugh. I just drip now, had to run to the bathroom earlier dripping milk all over the place!

i use whichever ones are cheapest when i'm home and the lansinoh ones when im out. eve i agreee the johnsons ones are softest but theyre so thick i cant wear them in public!

Re sex i think you have to wait til your 6 week check. xxx

DM these tommee tippee ones have like this 1cm wide border round them which seems to be scratchy or something on my skin which is why I don't like them?

Huge congratulations to MummyMarsh such lovley news, hope you are feeling well.

Hann i really hope things improve quickly for you know

Aasrie and doodles I have/had a quick letdown too. No squirting but lots of chocking and head jerking.

Jenni we are also seeing a physio for Billy's feet, my issue was just lack of room but the exercises seem to be helping alot. Glad you are able to talk about your section in such a positive light, I am finding it very hard not to dwell.

RE breast pads, I hate the disposable ones, I have very sensitive skin and find all of them irritating. Had I kept feeding I was going to make some.

Sex who is thinking about sex lol, even if I wanted to I couldn't, still bleeding (sorry TMI) it actually seems to be getting worse again :(

Well we have been FF for a week now but I have started expressing again as I am spending way to much time miserably beating myself up rather than enjoying bub. However I cant seem to win, because I have had thrush my nipples are now cracking and extremely painful again.

On a positive note Billy slept from 8pm to 2am then 3 till 7. I think we must have both been worn out after being up every hr the night before.

Just out of curiosity is anyone else getting their little boys circumcised? Billy has already been done as that was DH's personal choice. It doesn't seem to be as common now tho.

I had best be off, need to make the most of my good night, have a massive assignment due today and I finally have a not so mushy brain so I might actually complete it :)

Hi everyone! Got back home yesterday, it's so good to be back in my own bed! Our first night at home was lovely... I had Paul give Leo a formula feed at 4am so would you believe I slept for 6 hours straight sleep...? And boy did i need it after an entire week on wards full of idiots and constant interruptions to sleep.

We had to start topping Leo up with formula on my last night in the hospital as i was on a blood transfusion drip for 6 hours and couldn't have fed him. Plus the doctors advised us to top him up as he was so thirsty and i was so weak i wasn't able to keep up with him. Bit of a problem over the past couple of days as he's been funny about the breast now, so we've had to try underhand tactics to get him back on. All a bit hit and miss at the moment, but we are sticking to breastfeeding where possible and formula top ups where necessary for now as he is a very hungry baby!

Does anyone have experience of babies not liking one breast? for some reason he doesn't like my right one and it can be quite an ordeal getting him onto it. It's too early to express as my milk isn't quite in yet, so my right boobie is getting really painful!

Will catch up properly tomorrow... am being told to turn the laptop off now... xx

Mummy, glad you got a bit of sleep. I had issues with my right breast with both babies. I did find that using the football hold on that side was helpful sometimes. I still had a bit of fuss tho. I might be odd tho as I have trouble expressing from that side as well.

My parents left yesterday after half a week. It will be nice to have some quiet, but I will sure miss the help. My mom left us with a fridge full of leftovers. I also caught up on my sleep, which was great :)

About the talk regarding disposable pads, I'm using Lansinoh too and like that they look good under clothes. I have Johnson and Johnson ones too, but they look awful...too bulky. The reusable ones I bought (Nuk I think) are not so good...I leak right through them and they look like I've stuffed pancakes down my bra. I'm disappointed because I wanted to like them and buy more.

MM, big congrats! (I can't remember if I already mentioned it)

Simmy, welcome home :) About pumping early on, the hospital told me to do it even if it's for a few drops. You might get some relief and it will increase your supply.

Jenni, it's great to hear from you. I'm glad the section worked out. Too bad hubby is traveling so soon. Hope you'll have some help. How's Audry liking being a big sister?

Amanda, glad you got better sleep. Good luck with your assignment. What are you studying?

Gotta go change Jill. She slept for 4hrs. Hope she'll sleep another 4 :) I'm starting to get used to this sleep thing. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I weighed her a few days ago and she went from 7lb12oz to 9lbs in 2wks. Yey! :happydance: Well, it's only an estimate for now with our scale (I did a before and after). I'll find out Tuesday what the real #s are, but can't be too far off.

Amanda that's exactly what my letdown is like too - the choking and head throwing although it seems to be getting better each day! It's definitely worse when I'm engorged.

BV I've heard good things about the wee notions pads but never used them myself

Simmy I agree with what Amanda said about trying a different hold for the breast he doesn't like. Babies always have a preferred boob. Saraya didn't like my left whereas Atticus doesn't like my right?! I find he latches better in the football hold on my right too.

AFM: MW had to come out again this morning to swab Atticus' armpits as he has some bacterial infection... staff something? So she told us to use the same antibiotic cream on his armpits that we were given for his umbilical infection. On top of that I had to be swabbed too because she thinks I have BV although I think it's clearing up on it's own because the smell is improving and there're no more clots or increased bleeding so hopefully I won't need antibiotics!! Aside from that the HV will be out tomorrow to weigh him again and then the MW back out on Friday to weigh him too.
I definitely think Atticus' latch is better the way the MW showed me because he slept for a block of FIVE HOURS last night!! At 10 days old I'm pretty pleased with that for a BF baby :]

Hi ladies, will catch up properly later, have had a mega busy weekend, just wanted to let you know Harrison was weighed by the MW this morning and is doing great, he is 10 days and has gone from a birth weight of 8lb to just under 8lb5. We have both now been signed off by the MW and are waiting for contact from the HV so we are very pleased.
Off into town shortly to get his birth registered. Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine, will catch up later on xx

Hi! Amanda-please feel free to pm me if you want to talk about your section...I've had two now and am dealing with this one way better than the first...if you want to talk...

I find that Max doesn't latch onto my left breast well...I have to cup my breast while feeding otherwise he slips off the areola and just gets nipple. OUCH! Maybe I'll try the football hold.

Eve - how are you getting your baby to sleep 5 hours??? I get 2 maximum! and he wants to sleep more during the day and wide awake at night. I can't get him to fall asleep in his bassinet at night....he falls asleep on me during feeding and then wakes up when I burp him...I try to coax him back to sleep and then place him in the bassinet but the little bugger knows what I'm doing and always wakes up!! So i end up sleeping sitting up against the headboard and holding him...ridiculous! I can't keep that up!

Jenni he is co-sleeping with us atm because he won't sleep in his crib BUT he has only done 2hrs at a time too until last night. I think it's because the MW spent loads of time with me yesterday perfecting my latch so he sucks more efficiently and therefore gets more - especially of the hindmilk which is the fatty stuff - and because he's getting more of that I think that's why he slept longer. I'm also now changing his nappy midfeed rather than at the start so it's feed, nappy, then relatch because the nappy change wakens him up again and gets him interested so he's feeding for 15-20 mins a feed rather than 5-10 mins.

Hi girls
Sorry this is the first time I've been able to sit down and actually post. There's too much to catch up on so this will be a one sided post.
Well my natural birth went out the window with the induction, we went from prostaglandin gel, ARM, syntocinon drip, diamorphine to epidural. I got to push for half an hour only as Cameron's heartrate was going up, he didn't progress enough down the birth canal so we went for an emergency c-section.
I did not have a good experience in hospital. We had issues with breast feeding and had so many midwives shoving my boob in his face that he got to the point where he and I were so upset by BFing that he just refused and would scream instead. We started out topping him up with a syringe after his blood glucose was dropping, then giving him expressed colostrum with syringe then baby beak, but eventually gave in and gave him the bottle cos that way we stopped the interference and allowed us to bond without all the nonsense from staff. I really hated my stay, I was sobbing one night/day and asked if DH could come in and was told that visiting for partners was 2-8pm and anyway "What could he do?" by the ward sister. DH phoned and challenged this and she made a "special exception" and let him come in at 12pm. Formal complaint has been lodged!
We've gone back to basics on bf'ing, skin to skin and letting him find the boob and he's voluntarily latched on twice in the past 3 days. I am expressing like mad, invested in a Medela Swing pump and am managing to provide EBM for half his feeds. But even this has been put back by an internal infection I have. Ended up getting the emergancy doc out to the house on Thursday night as my temp went over 38.5 and I was in excruciating pain, so of course the ABs are upsetting Cameron's tummy, argh!!! So basically the past week has been a nightmare but Cameron is gorgeous and makes it all worthwhile. We'll get the BFing sorted and I'll be off the ABs soon.
Will try to keep in touch more x
