BFP and overweight?

Jaybear - you look awesome. :)

I had the same problem with my jeans. I did manage to get a pair of size 18 over bump ones from New Look which are perfect. I also bought some Mama's and Papa's one's off ebay which I was shocked are too big! I figured they might be fine later though. :)

Has anyone else had midwife/doctor issues?

My MW was fine but I had to see the consultant today due to the IVF & OMG!! she told me I'll need forceps, c section as I'm too fat too push! Extra scans as they probably won't be able to tell baby's growth! I wouldn't mind but I'm only an 18... Rude people!!!

I do get 2 extra scans which I'm seeing as a bonus!!

I knew I was overweight after a year of very stressful work and eating far too late I went on hols with my other half to relax. We discussed starting to try for a baby and my master plan was to have a last blast on hols and knuckle down to the diet on my return. Then I realised that we had brought an extra little person home from hols with us and I am still bigger than I have ever been before.

I want to watch my weight but I can only eat what I feel like at the moment and when the sickness hits something has to hit my tum. I am hoping that 2nd T (if I am lucky enough to get there) will allow a little more control.

Have my midwife appt in a week and I am bit scared of her reaction!

 What a cowbag! 18 is nothing....what are they talking about!!?

Is it true that if you are overweight you can't push!? I've never heard that!?

I have just found out i'm pg :happydance: and i'm very overweight- bmi of 38 i think? size 20-22 uk
I have been doing slimmingworld for 5 months & lost 3 & 1/2 stone...i hope to carry on with the healthy eating, i don't want to ruin all my hard work!

I asked the doctor if my weight was a problem & he said 'looking at you, you look like you'll be fine'! He didn't even weigh me :D

I'm glad i saved my bigger clothes! Might need them in a few months :haha:

OMG how rude! Being "too fat to push" is a load of rubbish! I am a 22/24 and pushed just fine, thank you :) Also had a "textbook" pregnancy; no gestational diabetes, gained a reasonable amount of weight, did not need forceps, had a natural birth.... so whoever you saw was talking garbage :hugs:
xx

My doctor also said I'm too big, and will need a repeat c-section because I'm too fat to have a VBAC. I think doctors have forgotten what it was like when women used to work in the fields pregnant, and didn't have ultrasounds, c-sections for any situation, etc. Our bodies are capable of it, and it's starting to really upset me that they are making overweight pregnant women feel like total crap!

I hope nobody tells me I am too big to push, I think I would just go mad.
I checked the scales today and I have put on 5lbs. I think this can only be down to the fact I stopped walking so much as I was so exhausted as my diet hasn't changed much at all. I shall have to pick up the walking when I start feeling less tired.

Thats completely messed up! Its one thing for them to tell you that you are overweight but to say it like that? I know I'm over weight and hope to change that..... Keep ur head up!!! :)

Hi ladies - thought I'd join you. I'm vary in sizes between a 20-24. Was the same size when I had my first and I had no problems pushing. No doctor or midwife ever seen my weight as a problem. I had a natural birth on just gas and air. The only problem I had during my pregnancy was hyperemesis - but that wasn't linked to my weight.

Don't let the docs scare you with things they say xxx

Some doctors are so full of it!! Mine was completely amazing, all he said when I brought my weight up was that I should watch my intake of empty calories, and as long as I feel ok, to exercise when I am able.

My doctor didn't say a word about my weight with my DS until my post-partum check up. At that point he said, "Look, you could afford to lose some pounds. Drink lots of water, stay away from fast food, and try to get in those fresh fruits and vegetables. But other than that, you're completely healthy!" I gained 65lbs in that pregnancy, and he seemed perfectly happy with that. By the end of the pregnancy, I was gaining 2-3lbs per week.

When I was in to see him in February when he told me that I'd lost the baby, he said my size was not an issue, that I was in nearly perfect health, etc etc. I'm very glad I have a doctor who was so understanding and non-pressuring of weight! I really didn't realize how lucky that is until reading through this thread! I'm sorry you ladies have such mean midwives/doctors... sometimes the things they say are really uncalled for. :(

Thanks for your stories ladies :hugs:

My MW was fab as she took the time to listen to me & understand that after the fertility treatment & m/c it was normal to gain weight.. Especially from all the drugs. Think the infuriating thing is that the consultant treated me like a fast food addict who said I looked 'far too good for a pregnant person with high bmi' Wtf does that mean?

I'm guessing getting off my ass to swim, do yoga & pilates is helping... My downward dog position will have baby come flying out

Ahh glad the beta went well Lola!

Yep my aim is to not gain too much - you lose best part of 14lb in labour what with the baby/fluids etc and then the womb decreasing in size etc. My friend was giving so much grief by her NHS hospital that she gained only 6lb during pregnancy and was pretty miserable throughout - plus she looked terribly drained.

I waited long enough for this and now feel like i can't enjoy it - worrying about MW appt in 2 weeks but i will be telling her to shhhhh! if she starts lecturing!!!

You are right! After IVF you need to relax and ENJOY!!! Don't listen to em!

I was always told (prior to getting pregnant) that I would have a lot of trouble concieving and would be unlikely to actually be able to. (Depending on which health nurse I saw.) I am 5' 6'' and at the time weighed 12st. So I was classed as obese.

Well I'm now 7 weeks pregnant, and yes I lost weight, managed to get to 11st, but of course it would appear that the weight is going back on, even though I'm eating healthily. (Small but incredibly regular meals.) Basically I figure that I will do more harm if I stick to eating 3 larger meals, other than the fact that I can't actually go for more than 3 hours without food, and really can't face eating bigger meals.

Fruit, seeds, a few nuts and chicken breast pieces are my snack foods of choice at the moment. I don't drink tea and coffee anyway so that was never an issue. Water, squash and the occassional fizzy drink.

Oh dragon you are tiny at 5'6 and 12st! That's ridiculous and also you would be under BMI? At 5'3 i need to be no more than 12st although i am. How rude of them!!! They only worry about BMI over 38 in pregnancy so try not to worry too much :hugs:

Thank you Rachelle, I have not yet had the chance to be seen by anyone medical yet, but I'm not too worried.

I never like the references that they use for BMI anyway, as they do not take into account muscle mass etc. I do not appear to have a lot of obvious fat, I am incredibly active, (dancing, zumba, jogging 3 days a week) so to be honest when she said to me that I was obsese, I laughed but later cried at this. She honestly did more harm than good telling me that.

I think that's very true - before all this IVF lark i was 12 st but would run 10k four times a week -i had no real lumps and bumps but even then i was told i was obese. BMI is just not a good marker. Even now, yes i might be heavier after the drugs and emotional eating etc. but i'm active - i'm doing swimming, yoga and pilates so it's not as if i'm sitting on my butt eating cream cakes :happydance: Ooh.... cream cakes :haha:
