Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

It does get better, promise! Williams worst habit when teething was coming off but not opening his mouth properly so would graze me, ow!

Off out for the day when lil man wakes from his nap, sun is shining so need to make the most of it! Have a good Sunday everyone :flower:

cheers girlies - I'm hanging in there just now. My nips are covered in cream and well aired so heres hoping it stops soon!!

I often wonder the same thing! I couldn't imagine not nursing.

I think I'll re-read my copy of Mothering Your Nursing Toddler. I love that book and The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.

I've just ordered the above book (highlighted) - looking forward to a good read now!

I liked the politics of breastfeeding. Isnt a help book on breastfeeding but some info in there.

Wow, just found this info from a website, pretty impressive stuff boobie juice!

During the second year of nursing 15 ounces of breastmilk contains 43 percent of the required protein, 36 percent of the required calcium, 75 percent of the required vitamin A, 76 percent of the required folate, 94 percent of the required vitamin B12, and 60 percent of the required vitamin C.

Knew it had brilliant nutrition, but seeing the stats written like that has impressed me, and made me proud of my body for making something THAT good!

And my hv says its no good after 6 months, she needs to go and learn ffs.

That's amazing! It's great to see it written down like that.

I think there is a strong cultural belief system that suggests that breast milk is good for babies but not really enough for older babies, even once they are six months and over. For example, I find myself worrying if Thomas hasn't eaten much at lunch/dinner on a particular day. I was saying that to my mum and she said 'but he will get anything that he is missing from his milk' - which is obviously true when she said it like that but for some reason I wasn't thinking about it like that. But if breast milk is good enough to be a complete food for the first six months, it stands to reason that it isn't going to lose all its goodness after six months.

Dragonfly - I liked the Politics of Breastfeeding too - it made me determined not to give Thomas formula when you read about the unscrupulous behaviour of the formula companies - no way do I want to be a part of that if I don't have to. (Not saying anything against those people who have to use formula by the way, it's the behaviour of the companies that I object to)

It's wonderful to see the superb nutritional facts about breastmilk written out. We KNOW it's amazing, but it's great to see the facts too :)

I need to look up The Politics of Breastfeeding... think I feel an Amazon purchase coming on!

Anna it will make you angry parts of it, its a real eye opener. Politics of breastfeeding. Shows you what formula companies are capable of and explains so much. I know so much more just from reading it. Gabriel Palmer is the author its on its 3rd edition now.

I am really disappointed. Sunderland does not have a single copy of it in any of its libraries. We're going to the library tomorrow and I was really hoping to borrow it :growlmad:

Looks like I'm going to have to as well. Stupid public libraries....

if only everyone knew what was in that book alredy without a book having to show it. Its well researched and backed up anyway. Feel like loads was hidden from me.

I know what you mean - it's a shame a book had to be written about it to expose truths that should already be known by everyone... but at the same time I'm glad she did write it.

Re: Facebook. I'm not sure if I'm 'searchable' because U changed all my settings after some abuse from friend's of my sister's started attacking me on there, but if I am searchable, then my name's Fleur Eveline Lees. I've added a couple of you & included who I am so you dont think I'm some kinda weirdo stalker, lol. (trust me, I've had a few)

Re: books. If there was one 'bible' book for breastfeeding mummies, what one would you ladies best recommend? My local library has zero books on BFing, but luckily the city one does... however no one had gotten them out for well over a year which made me kinda sad.

Q for those of you with older babies- is it still obvious when older babies are going through growth spurts? Like do they demand more boobie feeds, or would they demand more solids instead?

boobie feeds for my man, he still really is on my boob a lot and seems to like it more than solids. He has breakfast, lunch and dinner but some times he just wants boob.

:hugs: to the ladies who have lost so called "friends" because of their feeding habbits/parenting styles... we can't change how they think, but with hard work maybe we can change what is "normal" for our next generations :)

I got our family pictures done and back again, going to upload some once I get lil lady settled, she is waking from her nap early so not in the best mood!

If you can, add me to facebook too!!
