Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

I plan on self-weaning too. But I do think that if he is still feeding when he is two then I may try to gently encourage weaning. I say that now but I may feel differently at the time, who knows?

I'm hoping to let Alyssa self-wean. As far as a 'weird' age goes, I used to think that it would be when A was walking. Then I thought it would be when she could talk and ask for milk. Now I think 3 would be it, but I'm keeping an open mind. Each time we reached what I thought might be a 'weird' age, it didn't feel weird at all - it felt like the most natural thing in the world

I wouldnt cut off just like that, but William can do without when we are out and about, he dosnt look it, its when we sit down at night he likes night feeds. He now falls asleep in after noon without boob to help which is good to. I think defo before school thats for sure.

Well Emma still feeds all day long and sometimes at night as well. I'd say she still feeds about 10 times a day or even more. Just short little snacks. She loves the booby! So I truly can't go out anywhere without feeding her. I wonder when she'll start dropping feeds. I, by no means plan to just stop feeding out of nowhere. :haha: I'm just saying I feel that the age that I start to feel weird about is 3. I have no clue why. :dohh:

I just go with the flow always have done. I never worry myself to death until theres a problem, I learn this from constant worrying in the past that just to take things as they come. Then I dont have any influences any more around me yacking at me for breastfeeding any more so I am less stressed. I think that makes a difference.

Just to add that I don't in any way think there is anything weird about still feeding a two year old, just that I think that after two years I would feel ready to stop. I definitely don't think I would want to do daytime feeds after two but might continue with bedtime feed if he still wanted it. We will see, it seems like a long time away at the moment but the past nine months has gone by in the blink of an eye and I know the next year will be the same.

No didnt think that at all. I set out a goal for 4 months, then 6 then I a year and now I just keep going to whenever. I know and he will know when its over, it was hard saying the word over there! :O kinda sad thinking about it but I have another to feed after to keep me going. And when they get older they hopefully will thank me for good health their mum and dad never had and a relationship I never had with my parents either. A feel so lucky to have gone this way actually as I entered into it blind and didnt know what the heck I was doing and was for formula, I had all the gear bought for me for that. Even my other half says the same he is glad it went this way to.

Emma can now stand from nothing and take off walking! Woo! She did it once a few days ago but today keeps doing it so she has hit every walking milestone now I think! She keeps bringing me fruit from her play kitchen that she got on her birthday. :haha: I love seeing her walk all over. But it makes me broody for a newborn so I can do it all over again!

Awwww yay Emma!

Know what you mean about being broody for a newborn. I am so happy to have reached the 18 month mark; if I am pregnant and Alyssa self-weans as a result I think I will feel slightly less sad than if we hadn't hit that milestone, if that makes any sense.

Oh I think it makes perfect sense! DH and I was basically NTNP for the past few months and I kept thinking in the back of my mind that I didn't want to be pregnant yet because I want to make it to 18 months at the very least with BFing. :D 2 would be awesome as well but 18 months is awesome. I've never known anyone IRL breastfeeding past 12 months.

You know, I thought of a question to ask the few of you that are breastfeeding older babies but now I forgot. :dohh: Hopefully I can remember again cause it was a good question. :D

I'm planning on self weaning...But if he gets to 2, I think I'm going to try and wean him gently...I think 3 is my wierd age, when I fell pregnant, I thought I'll deffo BF until he's 6 months, when he arrived, I decided to go at least 9 months, and now, I'm thinking about 2 years!

I have no choice but to self wean methinks! Bella drops feeds all on her own, i think she is eager to stop! Lol. I keep trying to feed her more but she's quite happy with her 3 feeds, fair enough i suppose!

I think Sophia will be allowed to self wean, I don't think she will carry on for years and years anyway. I was away for 24 hours and she only had about 2 oz of ebm all that time and was happy as larry, so she obviously doesn't NEED the milk. so she must just like booby cuddles!!:happydance:

William snoozing around my bump, he is being kicked there but dosnt even stir. #

awwwwwwwwwwwww that is just too adorable

Dragonfly- LOVE the piccies. He's so cute. I saw your video of him on the red carpet on FB and he's such a handsome little man. :D

The girls in here with older babies, have they ever had a taste of cow's milk? And if so, what was their reaction? I don't plan on letting Emma even taste it if I can help it but I was drinking some the other day and Emma was eyeing it. I usually share whatever I'm drinking but the thought of her drinking cows milk just turns my stomach for some reason. This growing up stuff is hard for me to take. I wish she could just stay this age forever. :haha:

Alyssa has cow's milk in a cup during the week when I'm at work. She also has all the water she wants.

She likes it, but will drop it in an instant if the opportunity to BF presents itself! :haha:
