Breastfeeding Support - 6 months and beyond!

Alyssa loves brushing her teeth! She runs into the bathroom yelling "Teeeefff" :D

Kira got her teeth starting at 9 months and now she has 5! We brush them at night too, but before she gets booby  For now we're just dry brushing to get her used to the tooth brush. I guess at some point it's safe to use toothpaste?

we've been using milk teeth toothpaste since she got her first one at 8 months - just a smear on her brush though. oh and hi :hi:

Caine loves brushing his teggies too, not that you could probably call it brushing

Dragonfly that is pants what HV said :grr:

was thinking how amazing it was that health professionals here know more about formula than the most fundamental way to feed your baby thats been there since the start of time. Amazing.

:hi: everyone, I've been away for a while visiting friends n family, but we're back now. It was so nice being away & for once, I got some really positive comments about how I'm 'still' BFing & how happy & healthy harry looks :happydance: And my dad was totally amazed by the BLW & was staring at him at every meal repeating stuff like, 'it's just amazing!' & 'where's he putting it all?!'

Clerkner, hope Emma had a good 1st birthday. And to everyone else who just turned 1 aswell :)

Can't remember if I said already before but Harry got his first tooth through at 10 months 2 days old. So far, it's not affected his feeding at all, although everyone tells me it's when they get their tops ones that they might bite at the end of a feed?

Yay for the support from the family Fleur! :happydance:

Alyssa got her top teeth at about 10 months old and she's never bitten me yet  (well, I've gotten a couple of nips when she's fallen asleep at the breast and is losing her latch, but nothing intentional.)

Emma already bites me and she has no teeth to bite me with! :haha: I wonder how it'll be once the teeth are here. Although I think she is just biting to use me as a teether because she didn't start biting until the week that I saw the teeth starting to come in. I see them right under the surface now just none seem to want to break through.

flora- I'm so glad your family and friends were so supportive! My family is the exact same way about watching Emma eat. Although my dad is constantly yelling 'shes gonna choke!' and he is just SO nervous watching her eat. It's ridiculous really. I ended up yelling at him to stop freaking me out because he'd yell out of nowhere and there was no reason because Emma has always just gagged on stuff but never actually choked. He's just paranoid. :haha:

flora- Kira has 3 top teeth (almost 4!) and she's only bitten down while asleep at night after she eats and falls asleep on the boob. It will jolt me awake, but it doesn't really hurt that badly. And once she bit by accident while awake. I was getting her ready to latch on and I think she got confused and bit as the nipple came towards her mouth. It felt more like a pinch, so I actually thought I got pinched in the bra, but then I realized it must have been teeth.

Shiv- Next time I'm at the store I'll look for milk teeth toothpaste. Thanks :)

I fed my daughter outside of our Justice Building (court house etc..) on the most BUSY street in Fredericton (capital of our province)! A tourist group even came up next to us, and apart from the weird, creepy, homeless looking guy staring at me while lying under a tree eating things off the ground, it was great! I didn't have any dirty looks or anything It felt so awesome! I wasn't even covered up much hehe Just felt like sharing, it was such a nice experience.

Posted in Bfing as well :D

Flora- so so awesome for the supportive comments and glad you had a nice time!! :D

My OH had 4 teeth through by 4 months!!

12 months breastfeeding today :happydance:

Well done Shiv and happy birthday Sophia!

I've not posted in this thread much, but I just wanted to recommend La Leche League meetings to anyone who hasn't been. If you've got one in your area, try to go along. I met up with some really lovely ladies yesterday and Alice was one of the younger babies! The leader fed her eldest until she was 4 and a half, and at one point was feeding all 3 of her children. She's a wealth of information and support. Just what I've been needing after a spate of sidelong glances in cafes and 'subtle' comments from friends.

Well done Shiv, great achievement and Happy bday Sophia :cake:

Hi all! Well I'm now officially 'beyond' 6 months, :happydance: so thought I'd poke my head in. Everything's going great with BFing and I'm looking forward to going on for a good long while yet from here. Now that we've started weaning (BLW), I've found myself wishing on more than one occasion that we were still exclusively BFing.

I feel the same some days too  but we don't have much solids, some days Kayleigh just has momma's milk still as she hasn't been interested much in solids yet.

Welcome hivechild!! I'm the same way about missing the exclusive breastfeeding days. Although Emma has a hearty appetite for solids so I don't think I could keep up with her anymore. :D

Ronan's enthusiastic although I think half of that enthusiasm is that he just wants to stick anything he can into his gob and it's just a bonus if it happens to taste good!

I have a bad habit of forgetting to eat for long periods of time so it's actually really hard work for me to plan ahead and think about meals! The monkey has been going through a 'phase' lately too so I'm exhausted trying to keep up with him. Flopping down on the couch and putting my feet up while he nurses is just so much easier.

 Is it bad that I've actually had moments recently where I missed the nursing marathon days where I could just sit for hours watching tv and movies while he nursed and napped then nursed some more and was completely oblivious to everything going on around him?

Nowadays if he even hears our dog shift or make the slightest noise he pops off the boob and all but flips out of my lap as he tries to find where the dog is...and then continues to pop off periodically to check that he's still there...and then pops off to grin and stare at the (sleeping) dog and just when I figure he's had enough and pull my bra up, he swings back around and faceplants into my bra and looks perturbed that I packed his lunch away. :dohh:
