First Time Mommies Due February 2016 - Anyone Want to Join Me?

Annie- Im so sorry about your dog. :(
Makes me want to go hug my kitties. I don't know what I'd do without them.

Annie, sorry to hear about your dog. :hugs: Those surprise diagnoses are always the hardest.

AFM: we are not taking a babymoon; we just significantly upgraded houses (sold old one on a half acre, bought one on 10 acres) in March.

I did go to the local thrift stores today to shop for maternity clothes! I came away with eight pairs of pants (dress pants included) and three tops for around $60. Everything is in very nice condition! Considering I go back to work on Thursday, I kind of needed clothes that fit. :) I know maternity clothes are designed to be forgiving, but I cannot express how wonderful it was to have EVERYTHING that I tried on fit me! I actually got to make choices on what to buy! I will definitely need more tops, but think I am set on pants for the rest of the pregnancy.

Anniemac- I am sooo sorry about your dog. :( Losing a pet, especially suddenly is the worst. Sending you lots of hugs :hugs:

AFM: I am feeling terrible. My allergies were pretty bad over the weekend and woke up on Monday with a stuffy nose. It got worse yesterday, then seemed to be a little better last night. Well this morning I woke up with my ear throbbing and a cough so it seems I may have a sinus infection. I am waiting to hear back to see if I can get in to see a doctor...ughhh.

We aren't taking a baby moon per say. We do want to take a weekend beach or camping trip for our anniversary. I am trying to save up as much PTO as I can for when I am on ML.

We went to Babies R Us yesterday to look at furniture as my in laws want to get it for us. Its just really hard as if we stay at our current apt. we won't have room for big nursery furniture. We did ended up buying these really cute binkies..just because we felt like we should get something. Other than that we have just bought a few random things. I cant wait til we know gender so we can really start to shop. lol

Annie:
I'm soooo sorry for your dog! Oh wow, after 12 years, I can't even imagine how you are feeling! :hugs:
For these type of losses, unfortunately, only time.. and keeping our minds busy with something else!

Jules:
I'm sorry you might have sinus infection.. this is not fun!! Hope the doctor can see you and let you know what you can and should take! Try to rest!

Duster: best of luck going back to work tomorrow!! And yayy for the clothes! The pants I bought are soooo comfortable! I'm wearing one now!

Our baby moon is only happening because it was a planned "long weekend" before we were pregnant! because now I am too trying to save up as much PTO and $$ as I can :)
Since we live in Miami, cruises are very cheap and we can get away for almost nothing! It will be a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas, for our 6th anniversary.

Jules: So sorry about your cold. I've just been getting minor headaches and it's difficult. I can't imagine having a full blown sinus thing. I hope they can give you something to help soon. Do warm showers help at all?

Pri: That cruise sounds heavenly. Have a great time!
Miami must be so nice to live in. I've been there only once for a weekend. I'm all about warm weather. I'm in RI and hoping that February is not like this past year for snow fall. I keep picturing trying to get to hospital in a blizzard.

Has anyone started researching products? I'm starting to look up stuff. I feel like there's so many options on types bottles and things.

I've asked my husband to talk to his sister soon to see if we need to buy a crib or if she's thinking of giving us hers as that's something we'd probably buy first. I'm not sure because her younger son is just almost 2 so maybe she still needs it? I'm not sure when they usually transition.

Thanks ladies! I went to the doctor and it was not an infection..thank goodness. Just a bad allergy flare up so he gave me some better prescription allergy med. I am feeling better already! :)
FYI: Peppermint and eucalyptus work wonders if your sinuses act up. Just put a little on your temples and it helps ease the pressure. Drip some on a tissue and smell or put in a pillow to help relieve stuffiness. I was desperate and someone told me to try it. I am seriously addicted. lol

Pri- A cruise sounds amazinggg! That is pretty awesome that you get some good deals since you live in Miami. I have never been, but just went to Disney back in May. My husband wants to move down there so bad. lol

Panda- I live in Pa so I am with you on the blizzard thing! My husband keeps telling me to stop worrying, but with the last two Februaries we have had I can't help it.

I have been researching some stuff. I always thought I would just want whatever was cute..now I am thinking safety and future use so I am researching everything we look at. I think 2-2 and a half is usually a transition age, though I am not positive on that one.

Hi Ladies, good morning!

I actually read on my app last night that week 15 for some reason stuffiness starts. Allergies, stuff nose and so on, are pretty common on this stage of pregnancy.. Lucky us! haha

Glad you are feeling better, Jules!!

Every year when hubby and I are watching all the blizzards and cold weather on the Northeast, we ask ourselves how people can live up north! We are just summer people and we "complain" about our winter!!!
I hope February will be a nice month for you all up there!!!
So you are more than welcome to come visit me! haha

Panda, hubby is the "researcher" at home. I just go by what I like, what is cute, and I dont read much reviews! So, please pass your reviews along! :winkwink:

That's nice if you can get the crib from your sister in law.

We were thinking of getting the ones that later on converts into a toddler bed and then into a full size bed.

But I think we are getting a bed for ourselves before we get one for the baby! Looking into that this weekend

So I just go my verifi results! Negative for all the chromosomal tests they did...down syndrome, trisomy, etc...

And the gender result....

ITS A GIRL!!!!! I am doing a scavenger hunt to a box with pink balloons in it to tell hubby! I will post pics! :)

Yayyyyyyyyyyyy

Congrats, Jules!
Congrats on everything coming out negative and congrats on being a girl!!!
:pink:
Now you can start shopping :happydance:

We have Panda as the first boy and now you as the first girl!!!!

So exciting!!!! :happydance:

I'm dying to find out what I'm having...

Congratulations, Jules!! How fun!

I am jealous of you warm weather people. I'm in Buffalo. It was like an apocalypse here when we had something like 6 feet of snow in two days. What's weird is that I had no snow and there was 5 feet less than a mile away. Dh owns a company here, so we'll be here until he retires. This year's storm was around my due date so we told our OB friend around the corner we'll be walking to his house and to be ready for us in a weather emergency.

I'm overwhelmed with all of the baby purchase options! I need to find a checklist or something. But I'm looking forward to shopping and reading your product reviews :) I think I'll check out glass bottles. I've just heard of the study saying the BPA-free plastic has ingredients that are worse than the BPA was. Yuck.

Jules: Congrats! It's a girl! So exciting! Have fun with the balloons :)

AnnieMac: I am really liking Bayli.st (google babylist registry and it will come up, it's got a weird period in it) They let you put online items on from ANY STORE including Etsy and they categorize and sort them. They also have a checklist you can print out.

I am also wondering about the glass bottles. I stopped drinking water out of plastic a while ago because I just hate the taste. I have a glass sports bottle, but I have had one break when I rested it on my car to unlock doors and it fell. I do kind of lean towards doing glass bottles for baby, but I was thinking I should probably get some of each because it's safer traveling with the plastic? There's so many nipple options that all claim to be best/most natural. It makes one's head spin. I'm asking friends and family what they think.

Also my aunt was telling me how difficult breastfeeding can be. Anyone else have people saying that to them?

I signed up for a prenatal yoga class tomorrow morning. I'm so nervous. I'm such a wuss about going to exercise classes by myself. I like working out with my trainer one on one but I can only afford that once a week.

Well, the "warm weather girl here" will be under a Tropical Storm Watch this weekend, maybe even Warning!!
I bet you are not jealous now :haha:

Panda:
I heard that breastfeeding can be challenging, but it depends a lot on how sensitive you are and how the baby will suck also. A friend of mine told me that she bought some silicone "breasts" to put on top of her nipples, so her daughter would suck through that, instead of direct on her, and for her it was a life saver. She did not know about it when she had her first son, and for her it was horrible. Then someone told her about this on her second pregnancy, and for her, it was the best thing she bought!
I will look into that, just in case!

I would love to do a prenatal yoga class, need to see if I can find something around me :)

I've got an email but didnt look it through entirely, but it is a website you can do your baby registry from all stores, and this can be the registry for the baby shower too, the one you send out for friends. I might be considering it :)

Well, hope you all have a great weekend!!!!:hugs:

Thanks for the list, Panda. I have a glass water bottle with the silicon wrap and was wondering how long it would be before I broke it. So far a couple of drops, but ok. The top of a car to asphalt would do it in for sure. I would use the stainless steel stuff, but it can get SO gross. Even with those brushes, you can't see what it's in there.

Yes, breastfeeding can be a challenge and a lot of women get discouraged, especially if the baby loses weight at first and because it seems like it should be an easy, natural thing. There are support groups/doula collectives/breastfeeding workshops out there. Sometimes the baby just has a poor latch. Positioning can be tricky.

Don't worry about the prenatal yoga, Panda :) Most of the women probably aren't going with buddies unless they're lucky to have a close friend also pregnant. One of my yoga teacher friends said her prenatal students became really close and everyone hangs out with their babies constantly. How fun! I just asked my Pilates instructor if they would do a prenatal class and she said she'd get one going, so I'm excited.

I will definitely check out the silicone things, Pri. Whatever makes it easier. Does anyone have a tip on what breast pumps to buy? That's one thing I look at and get overwhelmed by (I take epilepsy meds so I'll have to pump and dump, and then feed the baby).

Pri: That's such great info about the silicone breasts! I've never heard of that. I've had a few people scare me with "raw nipples" stories so that sounds like a great solution.

My doc gave me a pamphlet for online breastfeeding class she highly recommends and one that is an in-person class at the hospital so I will probably check those out.

My yoga class was SOOOO RELAXING!!! There were 9 women there and I was the earliest along. The women next to me was 18 weeks and then the rest were between 20 and 30. Four of us were first time at the class so it was actually pretty quiet in the locker area because no one knew each other, but the teacher had us introduce ourselves and such.

I spoke to the 18 week-er after class and she said she started feeling the baby at 16 weeks. I'm so excited for that! Has anyone felt anything yet? Definitely report when you do!

Congrats to all of you with the gender news or just with forward progress. Our bodies are doing such amazing things right now! Are we all in second trimester?

I think I felt some pokes yesterday! Very strange- like someone poking you with a finger but from the inside. Not painful at all but I'm almost positive it was Bip. :) They are few and far between right now but I will definitely let you know when things get more regular. :)

How are you ladies doing? Trying to get ready for fall and winter here; all the winterizing chores. With 10 acres that isn't an easy task!

Pri- Def. not jealous of the tropical storms down there. My in-laws are worried since they are in Disney, but I told them their could be worse places to be stuck in a tropical storm. lol
That is pretty cool about the silicone breast covers, I have heard of some different types of nipple covering. The only real negative thing I have heard was that the nipples can become quite irritating. Ouch!

AnnieMac- I have never used a breast pump, but will be getting one through my insurance. I believe it is a Medela, which I have heard a lot of good things about. If you have insurance def. check to see if its covered.

Panda- Yoga class sounds sooooo relaxing. Its also great that you can connect with some other preggo ladies. :)

duster- So exciting that you felt some pokes! :) That sounds like quite a task to winterize all of that land. On one hand I am excited about fall and winter because I want baby to be here, on the other hand I am not looking forward to freezing weather and snow.

AFM: I have been feeling a little bit of movement over the past week. Its hard to explain, almost someone giving super light raspberries on the inside. lol It has only been 2-3 times when I was sitting/laying really still. I cant wait til its stronger and more often! :)

So jealous of you ladies feeling things!
I'm very impatiently waiting to start feeling baby. Hoping it's not too much longer.

Hi Ladies,

so the Tropical Storm missed us but we got a looot of rain on the weekend.
Glad is over now!

oh wow, congrats to the ones feeling the kicks already. I havent felt anything yet. On Friday we actually used the doppler to hear the heartbeat, because I've been feeling so fine that I got a little concerned. just wanted to make sure all was fine.

Duster 10 acres seems a lot!!! Hope you can prep early!

Panda I'm glad you enjoyed the yoga class!

Annie: yes, I also heard the insurance covers the breast pump. I will check with them as well.

AFM: I have a doctor appt tomorrow and I am really considering changing obgyn. Need to see when I can make the appointment with the other one.
Also have on Thursday the second part of lab work for the NT. No kicks yet... maybe this week once I enter the 16th week!

wow, duster and jules, that is soooo exciting you are feeling some movement! I can't wait. It's good to know it can happen so early. I was surprised when the woman at yoga told me that she was feeling lots of movement, and was actually slightly skeptical when she said it started at 16 weeks. It's so nice to hear you guys are feeling things. Gives me something major to look for in the next couple weeks!

duster: 10 acres! Wow. I thought we had a lot of work living on the woods. The raking leaves is insane, but 10 acres is a lot of work! Must be beautiful though! Take it in a small parts, I guess. :)

Annie: didn't realize insurance might cover breast pump. I will have to see if mine does that. good info.

pri: Glad the storm missed you guys. That's a big deal wanting to change obgyns. That's too bad the visits have been disappointing, but you are smart to try someone else as it's important you like and trust them. Hope it works out.

AFM: This is the first week I really feel like I have a bump even though it's so small. It's at the point where it never goes back to flat where before it seemed to come and go and was probably bloating. I bought some maternity shorts and shirts at Old Navy. I figured I can wear the 2 shirts with sweaters in fall and winter. They have maternity clothes for different stages so the shorts are not full maternity style, just stretchy drawstring top and will be much more comfortable for camping this weekend. Their summer stuff is on clearance so was super cheap.

I'm so happy for all of you that are feeling movement! How exciting!

Glad yoga was nice, Panda. I bet you'll all become friends after seeing each other weekly.

I'm starting to show a bit. I keep sucking it in (I don't know why!) But with a tight shirt, I think someone who didn't know me might even think I was pregnant. People that do know me would definitely probably notice. Does everybody have a bit of a bump now?

I'll upload my latest ultrasound pic. I think it's cute because the baby is giving the peace sign :)
