got summit i didnt expect last night :):)

i had a dog that was hard to train everytime i nipped out i would coe back to piss and shit everywhere and everything that was on my kitchen worktop would be on the floor ripped apart she even chewed my brand new rockport boots that cost me £135 the week before no matter how i tryed i couldnt train her i even took her to puppy socialising classes and then training classes but she was unbareable this was back when i was 16 yet my new dog bella is so good i let her out every couple of hours and she doesnt do her mess in the house. i go out and come back to a clean kitchen its great x

Aww he is gorgoues FTM.

And ladies didnt she say that she had had this breed of dog before for a long time. So she does have experience with his breed

I would love a puppy but I really dont think I will have the time to keep one next year so its cats for me lol
xx

Awww he's lovely. Whilst I agree with the others, a dog is for life, I understand your reasons for rehoming Bailey. Some dogs are hard work - and if you have no experience with the breed you are screwed. Sometimes you just get a bad egg. :(

That is behavioural, often linked with bordom, anxiety, and insecurity, no amount of training would have changed that unless you found out the underlying issues.
My dog is destructive if left but not everytime if leave her.. its a bit random.

I'm not personally attacking FTM, i just think personally that it was wrong to get another dog so soon after rehoming Bailey, especially after another thread stated she had no time for bailey, i don't see why size made a difference they all need exercise and training.

This is something i am passionate about, my dog bit my son, and some will say i am mad to keep her, but when i took her on it was a big decision and i wasn;t about to turn her world back upside down by sending her back to be rehomed. We worked through her issues and they are ongoing, and will continue so.

I'm one of the 'dog IS for life' people sorry.

Yes, you are mad to keep a dog who has bit your son  I hope she doesn't bite again and you live to regret that decision.

Anyway, I suggest taking ALL puppies to proper training classes, regardless of breed. We took our chihuahua and it was the best thing we did. Chihuahuas and other small toy breeds are notoriously difficult to train and within a couple of months he'd walk to heel, do his name recall, leave food if we place it right infront of his nose, sit, lie down, stay, wee and poo outside... defo worth the £ and it wasnt even that expensive.

Agreed and think with the amount of dogs int he media biting and mauling people that it should be a compusory part of having a dog. Ive heard this a few times about small dogs and that its apparently because they are looking up all the time, like because everything is so much bigger than they r they feel th eneed to show more that they are just as able as a big dog.

I will say that i think there are rubbish classes out there, we took zac to three before we found a good one. Kx

I didn't read FTM's other thread so can't comment on it, but I totally agree with her in rehoming him if he was showing these signs; and it certainly sounds like he was hunting the children down!

You know what if she'd kept the dog and it had hurt the children she'd have got slated as well :dohh:

The patterdale is gorgeous hun, I've got 3 of my own and they're adorable with kids and so long as they get loads of exercise they're fine :)

Agreed, It should be compulsory and dogs should be licensed again, and illegal to breed dogs without the same.

i dont think all puppys should go to training i didnt take mine i acctually went brough a book and did it myself and now hes fine.. can even leave him on his own outta his cage without him going mad.

thanks for all the replays girls

i no bailey was a dog with problems but im glad i told the lad who got him what bailey was .he told me he never had kids later i foud out he had a son that bailey went for .and now he has sold him on .my cousion rang me last night and said he new were bailey was .it was my cousions best m8 who boguht him .i went up to see bailey last night and he looked at me like to say dont i no you .after 20 mins of being there the lad who has him had to put him back in hes pen becuase bailey started to show hes teeth and snarl for no reason at my couions daughter abby .the lad even said i really regret getting bailey now and only had a him a few hours .even when bailey was tiny the vet called him a little bundle with a big bite when i asked why he said that he said pure hunting dog people dont have them as pets .i said yes years ago we had them as hunting dogs my dad owned loads over the years .

with me having my patterdale for years and years i no im good with terriers paddy is 14 weeks old and really baileys oppisite .he even nos how to bring hes toy back and leave it .i no loads of people who get dogs then rehome them and get another puppy

I know its a bit late but i think bailey should have gone to a breed rescue or to some one with experience of large breeds, or aggressive breeds.
Maybe a vet check to make sure there is nothing causing him to be aggressive.. i.e pain.

thats what my cousion said to hes m8 he said he will think about .i said well think quick before its too late x

I'm sorry to say, I can see Bailey being put down. He's being passed between your mates, they have him 2 days and can't handle him.
They obviously too inexperienced to deal with such a dog and it's going to end in tears and Bailey gets the ultimate punishment because he knows no better and he's not been given the professional help and discipline he needs. Now is the PERFECT time to nip it in the bud because he's still a puppy.

Changing the situation the dog lives in is not going to change the dogs temperament.

I would take responsibility, research a breed rescue, print out the information for this friend and give it to them and express your worries about the situation.

To be honest I think that you did make a mistake getting Bailey when you knew that he was agressive as you said the vet had told you. Dogs take a lot of time no matter the size or how much experience you have with the breed. My dog had been in 2 different homes and a rescue league before we got him and he had a lot of insecurity issues due to him not knowing if we were going to keep him. He too was a puppy, 4 months old when we got him but with a lot of training on our part and time he has come around, he was scared of kids for awhile but with time he has grown to love them and just wants to play with them all the time (he actually sits at my back door crying sometimes while he watches the kids next door play outside because he wants to play with them). I think that you should have done some more research on what to do with Bailey and sent him to a home that could give him the time and attention that he needed to sort out his issues, unfortunately now it doesn't look so good for him and it's going to take a lot of work for him to come around being in so many different houses in such a short time. To be honest it took about a year to work out things with our dog and he still has some abandonment issues (crying when OH leaves and getting overly excited when he comes home) but this is something that he will only get over as he knows that we will not just turn him away. I do really hope that you have the time for this new dog as you said you didn't for Bailey. I do understand you giving Bailey away if it was for his behaviour (which from looking for myself, I haven't seen you had ever mentioned) but I do think that you should have taken more responsibility for the situation and found him a better home. I hope things work out for this new dog and your family.

I think you done right to rehome bailey hun, if he went for the kids once then he would do it again,
Hope you have fun with your new puppy :) xxxx

It's sounds like bailey would now be better off being offered to be trained by a proffesional body as a security dog, say the police for instance. But I bet nobody actually wants to be the ones who lose out the money for him, much easier to pass him on and recoup a bit of the cash spent out for him. that's not dirrected at you FTM but to the later 2 day owner's of him. We know a family who unfortunately kept buying big breeds, alsation, staff, border collies and each time got rid. thankfully they did have the sense to give the alsation to the police and apparantly he was perfect for the job. So hopefully there's still the right home available for Bailey somewhere.

Your new pup looks lovely btw x
