got summit i didnt expect last night :):)

i have suggested breed rescues, people with large breed/aggression experience.
Or at worst PTS if he is that agressive i worry that one of the new owners may not be so truthful to a potential home, if he continues to be rehomed. at least ftm was truthful to the new owners.
problem is that most rescues ar full to bursting at this time of year.

Argh yes, i remember reading your post earlier on, didn't register properly up above:dohh:.
Its such a shame. The mind boggles as to why people would breed such a cross for domestic homes.

Irresponsible people making money! Thats why they breed them

Exactly!! The number of time I see people selling dogs here out the back of their cars in WALmart car parks. Makes me mad because they don't know what kind of people they are selling these dogs to. And of course the people who get them have no idea about the temperament of the parents. Bleh.

Is that a Dane in your profile picture? He's/She is ADORABLE!!

She is Phoebe or Flubbs as we call her. She was from a great Dane adoption society. Her litter were found in an abandoned flat.Shes wonderful but shocking noise levels when she snores

Aww bless her, at least she has a good home now! LOL @ Snoring.

My friend kept Danes, she had 3 .. got them as puppies, it used to drive her nuts because where "normal" puppies chew shoes and stuff, these lil buggers would chew on the kitchen sides and door handles because they were so big haha.

sorry but im confused...if you dont have time for one dog then its common sense you dont get another one...

i firmly beleive that dogs become the people that train them and some people dont deserve animals...

lost for words..

yes thats exactly what you do...
my mum breeds dogs and patterdales in the past and yes, you say take it back and any breeder would have it back, and yes most dogs do come with a receipt if its bought from a proper breeder.

you see this is why you ended up with a so called lurcher, but ended up with a staff x deerhound and anything in between  having a family dog should be bought with the whole family as a commitment not bought as a present :dohh:

couldnt agree more helen. We have recently got a puppy and we had been waiting to pick her up from 4 wks old. We chose a dog from a breed that we know a lot about and we have the time/love to devote to our puppy that she deserves. She is booked to do a 9 week puppy training course and although it is not cheap, it is the minimum i would expect with a puppy. Dogs require a lot of attention and cost an absolute fortune in vaccinations/vet bills etc and if you cant meet their basic needs then you shouldn't be allowed to own one. Simple as. Bring back licenses for dogs i say!

i have just found out the lad who bought bailey has sold him now i asked why he said too aggresive so it wasnt just me who thought and new it
as a dog behaviorist this quote scares the living daylights out of me

these poor dogs get shifted from one home to the next with their issues becomming more and more serious, and the result can be horrific.

there is NO dog that isnt trainable... there are lots of dogs who wont respond to a certain way of training, or respond to the level the owner wants, and dogs who just arent suitable for a certain type of home...but there are always things than can be done to help. its my opinion that a dogs behaviour reflect the time & dedication that is spent in training it.
i have a boxer.. hes BIGGGGGGG and boisterous, but hes well trained and well behaved in general.. i did boxer rescue for many years, and id defo say that the dogs who had issues were the dogs who didnt get the right training, especially in their formative years.
its irresponsible to rehome a dog who you KNOW has issues, even more so to rehome it to a home with children in, when you say he was 'hunting' yours?

i fear for that poor dog. god knows where he is now and what will become of him... hes been sold what, 3 times at least already? how many more people are going to make money from him before someone is hurt, or he it put down?

i think some of the posters on this thread would do well to spend a day or two working in rescue, the things you would hear & see would certainly change your mind.

i hope that this new dog doesnt get shipped out because it doesnt have the right personality, and i hope that you spend the necessary number of hours each week on training him.

just like to also add that statistically it is SMALL dogs who bite children the most, its just that they do less damage as they are weaker... so id expect this pup to nip as much if not more, as your last dog did. personally, id be more wary of a small dog i didnt know, that a large one! its not about size anyway, so to trade a big dog you cant cope with for a smaller dog really doesnt make much sense to me.....

yes!!!!!!
if you arent 110% sure that this dog is the right thing, at the right time for all the members of your household, then yes!
any breeder worth their salt would take it back... infact, any breeder worth their salt would NEVER sell a puppy to someone as a surprise!!
im assuming there were no home checks carried out? any breeding contract / conditions? a neuter clause? follow up checks? health screening prior to breeding>

in fact.. many decent breeders deliberatly do not breed litters this close to xmas for fear that pups wil be presents!

no.. didnt think so.
dont get me started on irresponsible breeding!

i dont think all puppys should go to training i didnt take mine i acctually went brough a book and did it myself and now hes fine.. can even leave him on his own outta his cage without him going mad.

books are great.. but you cant socialise a dog thru a book.. classes are invaluable just for the socialising side as much as training itself.

I too have raised a dog that was "mistreated". He locked in a cage so small he couldnt turn around ... i've raised 3 more dogs of the same breed, yet im in the wrong for rehoming one that i exhausted all of my possibilites, time and money with?

Im not disagreeing with the "principal" of your post, i dont agree with people just rehoming dogs willy nilly, but i am with how you can turn it into such a generalisation and band everyone who rehomes a dog as irresponsible

no. there are definetly cases where rehoming is the right thing to do.. genuine cases, and i have worked on plenty of them. i have no bad feelings towards these people, and many of them literally break their hearts over it.
but there is a right way to do it... thru a (breed) rescue, home checks, rehoming contracts etc... an assessment on the dog and proper matching with any potential new owners...at most resuces rehome on a contract that if the new owners cant keep the dog it MUST be returned to the rescue.. so they dont end up getting 'lost' and passed around from home to home...
an ad in the paper just doesnt cut it for me...
thats not a personal attack as i dont know anything about your situation or the processes you went thru to rehome.. its just my opinion!

Im soft when it comes rescue to dogs, id bring the lot home with me if i could

Im always wary of people selling dogs over XXX age in newspapers/notice boards etc etc, tbh they could tell you anything, and more than likely they will tell you what you want to hear so they get shot :(

exactly!!!!!
at least when you rehome tho a rescue you know that someone has assessed the dog, under different circumstances, and has a bit of an idea whats what!

I'd never buy any animal from a paper/notice board as like you say they could tell you anything.

I know it's not a dog but we have just been given a kitten after a friend of mine bought him from a card making shop saying he was 10weeks old on Halloween but yet her friend bout 2 from the same litter 3 weeks later and they man also said they where 10weeks old  she's found him to be too needy for her as he was taken from his mother at a very young age (we believe he was taken before he was at least 6 weeks old), he cries a lot, sucks and licks everything for comfort, wants to be cuddled a lot and as she has a 2yr old, found it too much hard work so I took him in as I have 2 cats who he will get on well with rather than be on his own.

This goes for dogs as well, there is very many who are sold too young, too aggressive and with behavioral issues and I feel so so sorry for them!! They are not money making machines but yet we as humans (granted not a lot of us) seem to do this to them??

i know. some people are SO flippant about it all..
i have rehomed dogs because their owners were getting a new sofa... becasue they were going on holiday and didnt want to pay for kennels.. because they had a medical condition that they didnt want to pay vets bills for...
its disgusting!!!

a kitten from a card making shop. ive heard it all now......

We have no animals, but the people who I know who do all treat them as their other children!!Would you give a child up who does not behave??No I would hope be the answer, you teach them HOW to behave and in the case of my friends animals this has been the case.I have no personal experiance so maybe I am wrong,I dont want a Dog or Cat with my children but that is my choice and has no bearing on everybody elses choices.I lived happily with cats as a child and OH with dogs but now we feel we dont really have the time for either and would not be fair.xx
