So, i've officially stopped breastfeeding

Amy was it the first time you've taken Alex swimming? We haven't taken Oliver yet . . . . I feel like we should. What was the ring thing?

It snowed here today! When Oliver and I got up I couldn't believe my eyes! It was lovely though, Oliver and I sat in the kitchen having breakfast watching Toy Story and with it snowing outside, it was fab It had all melted by lunch time though

emera - I read your post I felt exactly the same when it happened with Emily when she was 9 months. It does sound like a natural progression for you both though, there's no point in forcing it. Like you said, 1 yr is just a number whereas instead of that you've allowed things to come to a natural stop. With every changing milestone we feel sad as well becasue they are all signs of our babies growing up and becoming more independant, therefore needing us less. You have done fabulously well to bf him all the time he wanted booby too.

sarah - it was the second time we've been swimming. Its a sort of rubber ring for babies, it has a sort of seat they sit in. He loved it last time but freaked out this time! Alex is also booby obsessed. sometimes I do think oh please just give my nips a break he is such a comfort sucker

Emera - when I stopped breastfeeding I did it at the same time as one of my friends ... our babies seem to do the same things all the time and we both beat ourselves up about it debated it and really struggled with it. I miss that closeness but I still make sure I get nice snuggles!

Emera I'm glad it wasn't just me I was thinking too, you know its nice for things to end on a high . . . . although you've had the biting and supply issues, you've pretty much enjoyed it until the end and by the sounds Roh is ready to stop too. I worry that Oliver is so booby obsessed I will either get fed up of it at some point (I hope not!) or I will have to stop for what ever other reason before he wants to.

Oliver is exactly the same Its when he's falling asleep and he suck and sucks and I'm sure he's asleep, so I unlatch him and right away his mouth his wide open and he's doing that head shake thing looking for boobie again In the middle of the night when I'm falling asleep and he just wants boobie the whole time . . . . thats when I think about stopping

Thats exactly like Alex! and its so hard when you are just desperate to go to sleep or just not sit in a dark room trying to stay awake. Sometimes i know I am absolutely empty and it just gets sore! I love BF but its those times when I think I cant do this anymore!!! It just shows how different babies attitudes to boobie can be, Emily was just not fussed at all by 9 months, Holly would maybe have carried on but neither of them were ever like alex is!

Alex and Oliver sound soooo alike Does Alex nip too? With his fingers? Oliver has a habit of pinching my skin or scratching my boobs . . . . opening and closing his hand but dragging his nails on my skin, if you know what I mean? OUCH! I have little scratches on my boobs even though I keep his nails nice and short

But overall, dispite the pain in the ass stuff, I still love it

yes Alex is a pincher/scratcher he likes to get a little bit of skin and roll it between his fingers! ouch. I love it too, I love that he needs me for comfort, which is quite selfish because it means Kerry misses out a bit. He really enjoyed his time with alex is the morning before nursery after i'd left for school so thats one positive from me working

And yes, he's always fiddled with his hand too, for months his standard BF position has been with one leg trying to get round my neck, and a big fistful of boobie clenched in his spikey little fist! Sometimes he'd let go and slap my boob a few times too! Cheeky chap!

Oliver does the skin rolling too - OUCH!

I know what you mean though . . . . I love that he needs me too, esp as he is always soooo excited to see Daddy but I'm never away long enough to get that reaction, Steve gets it even if he's just gone to the kitchen to make a cuppa Thats great that Kerry has fun with him in the week, def a big positive! I make sure that Steve gets some fun time with Oliver in an afternoon, I get a bit of housework or something done and leave them to it. The other night Oliver was in bed, I was washing up and Steve had the monitor on in the living room. Oliver woke up and Steve just popped his head around the kitchen door and said 'Oliver's awake, I'll go' and was gone before I could say anything. I knew he wouldn't settle back to sleep for him and I knew that after Oliver had spotted Daddy it would take me longer to settle him, but I felt that I should let Steve have some of the lovely sleepy cuddles too and he obviously wanted to go up to him. I left them to it for ten mins and then went up, Oliver was wide awake and they were having a lovely snuggle, but it was quite nice because Oliver reached out for me when I went in. The power of the boobie eh!

dragging teeth sounds so painful!! it made me grimace reading that I love the image of his contortionist feeding position finished with a slap you'll have other special times now just like other people have said. I rad on another thread that a mum who has just stopped BF loves that the snuggles she gets are purely for the sake of snuggles rather than BF

sarah - hehe, thats so cute that Steve tries though! The only time kerry does it when I plead becasue Alex has wind and I cant get it up becasue he tries to feed through it and ends up puking everywhere!
