Stopping BCP to TTC***Updates & Progress/Noted Changes Since Stopping BCP***24BFPs***

Hello! Looking for some input here. I started a new thread but thought I would ask here as well.
Hi Ladies!
So my AF is due Wednesday. I have been feeling kinda of different and nauseous so I took a cheap pink dye test yesterday. it was in the afternoon so i was expecting a negative. Instead I definitely had a faint positive. It wasn't an evap line because i could clearly see the line, it just wasn't really dark. So I of course got excited, but then told myself i was going to test again in the morning to make sure. This morning.. on my second pee- (I wake up in the night to pee a lot) I tested with a blue dye cheap test -target brand and it was negative?
Have you heard anything about this? I've read online that blue dye tests are known for false positives, but not much about false negatives.

Thank you!

I also am interested in hearing everyones stories about ttc after stopping OCPs. I have been off OCPs for just over 3 months (was on for about 12 years, regular before from what i remember).

I waited 56 days before first AF. Then got a + OPK on cd17 but no AF and now on cd44 despite NUMEROUS BFNs. Didn't chart bbt or cm just the opk so not positive that i even ovulated.
These long cycles are so frustrating!! Just waiting for another AF so we can start trying again. Still bd'ing every 2-3 days in the meantime just incase.

Trying to stay positive and looking forward to hearing about everyones cd, opks, bfns and hopefully many bfps!

Welcome Linda and kjg!

Linda-it sounds very much like you need to get another pink dye test. I don't want to scare you or anything, but I thought I had a squinter on 12DPO, then 2 days of BFN before AF arrived. Suspect it may have been a super early chemical, otherwise just a fluke test. I'd try another though and see what happens!

KJG-your situation sounds eerily similar to wtbam on this thread, and I believe she has a few other threads on here as well. Without temping, it would be very difficult to say if you've ovulated. OPK's are great, but do have a down side in that they only tell you when you are getting ready to O, which some women will gear up for ovulation and then not have it happen, meaning the +opk doesn't guaruntee you've ovulated. I know it sucks. Some women are lucky enough to "feel" ovulation. I never felt it in my 11+ years on bcp, but in the three full cycles Ive had since stopping, I've "felt"it each time, so this cycle I decided to quit doing the OPK's and save some $. In your case, you may want to continue with the OPKs since you aren't sure if you've ovulated.(you can always start temping too!)

Sorry I can't give you ladies any more help, but hopefully some of the other gals on here will. Please keep us posted on any questions or just how your cycles continue!

Thanks Twinkie. It was just weird because i could definitely see the line on the pink dye test! I should have saved it but just threw it out thinking I would see another positive this morning. I will keep you posted!

Linds- I would wait a few days and test again, try for 1st of the day. I hope you do get your bfp! I've not used anything but first response or clear blue for tests so I don't know what to tell you about the tests you're using. FX!

KJG- it took my body a while to adjust bring off of BCP on average it takes about 3 cycles. Some women adjust faster, some slower. I use the opks every month. I can feel cramping before and during O so I know I am. Also I monitor my CM but in that I have ewcm even after I have already o for the cycle.

For anyone looking for first cycle off bcp experiences, my cycle was 39 days and I did not ovulate. I was temping and taking OPKs every day so I'm sure. I never got darker than a faint line until just a few hours before AF started, when I got a dark, almost positive test. Very weird and a little crushing. Not sure why that would happen! But it did coincide pretty well with the only other month I went off bcp when I had a 36 day cycle. Other than that I'm breaking out somewhat heavily and my boobs have definitely gotten bigger. DH is the only one happy about that, lol. Here's to next cycle!

Yeah, I'm out this month. AF showed up this morning! Really that I had the BFP on saturday!
Oh well, on to cycle #4.

Here's another question for everyone who has recently stopped taking BCP and are TTC..
Does anyone experience brown spotting 1-3 days before AF arrives? Starts off light than will turn into regular AF. It's been happening to me since I've stopped taking BCP. I asked my Dr. and she said that it seems normal, but for me to continue tracking everything so we can go over later this year if I still don't get a BFP. I'm just wondering if anyone has been experiencing this?.. I may have to start a new thread for this one!

I had that the first two cycles, about two days before AF would come, the last cycle (3rd) was the first that I didn't really get it. I think it's normal as your lining doesn't thicken on BCP like it does off and your body is just trying to catch up and I think that may cause slightly earlier spotting.

Good to know, Twinkie! This is my third cycle and it does seem to not be lasting as long so maybe it will go away next month.

Hi ladies, still wtt til later this year but given your experiences, would you recommend coming off the pill earlier than when you want to actively try? Thanks

Yup, having that right now. Very weird for me pre-pill but who knows post-pill.

I would give it 3 months if I could go back in time and predict that my DH would suddenly be ready to TTC. Just finished my first cycle and I didn't ovulate.

thanks for all the feedback so far.
cycle 1: 56 days
cycle 2: 45 days and counting... I often get crampy and swear AF is about to show up but still nothing. I too note that my face is breaking out as well!! definitely the hormones plus switching my retin-a to a pregnant-friendly alternative did not help.

littlelilly - in hindsight i would have stopped ocps even earlier (and just used backup protection if you're really not ready) for at least 3 months before ttc.
I stopped 3.5 months ago and have only had one AF in the meantime and not sure if I have even ovulated. I know it takes a few months to get regular but then probably another few months on top of that to actually conceive.

linds- never had the spotting thing but again have only had one AF since stopping ocps so not too much to go by. will keep you posted. praying i'm not one of those people that needs to wait 2 months between cycles!! this could take awhile...

Thanks for responses ladies. Will be watching your progress and keeping fc for u all xx

Lily-for the most part my cycles have seemed to be fairly normal, but with that said, I wish I would have stopped sooner just to help get everything out of my system. I broke out in cycle 2, ( I suspect it didn't happen in 1 due to it still being somewhat in my system). I also noticed that my cramps/back aches (all my typical AF signs), have gotten slightly worse/stronger since quitting and I think a few non-TTC cycles off the pill would have better prepared me for what a "normal" cycle is so that I don't think everything is so different and get overly excited that this might be the month I get a BFP...hopefully that makes sense. If you are for certain not quite ready, I'd just switch to condoms, it's not worth the headache to wait to quit the pill if you're responsible enough to use alternative methods.

Lily-- I would recommend stopping and just use condoms as early before you start trying TTC!

I stopped 6 months prior to trying and my cycles still are not back on track.

First cycles took 70 days to start, second 43, and still on the third 55 days and counting. If I could to it again I would have stopped a year before and just used protection.

Yes! I am having the same thing happen!
