Stopping BCP to TTC***Updates & Progress/Noted Changes Since Stopping BCP***24BFPs***

I only started on it all around 2 weeks ago, so I'm not sure I've even been taking them long enough to make a difference?

Oh yeah thats tough to say. Have you asked about your dosage? The only reason I ask is the book I'm currents reading states that a lot of people are prescribed a higher dose than really needed so it doesn't help them. Then there are those who need a higher dose.

So hard to say :( I and keeping my FX'd for you!!

CD50 for me and still nothing happening.

Cycle 1 off ocps was 56 days. At this point I don't even care about the length, just want AF to come so I can start a new cycle.
I haven't been charting or using opks - just felt like my cycles are way too irregular for that at this time.

I spoke with a friend of mine who is a fertility doc who said to wait another 2 months (ie 6 months off ocps). At that time, he said it's reasonable to consider testing hormones and possibly starting clomid. (fyi im 29 yrs old).

You could be right, I am only taking 750mg Metformin, and maybe I should look at increasing that....

I am taking 1000mg Vitex, I think that is pretty standard....

Trying not to get too excited since it's still early this cycle but my temps are waaay more stable now already than at any point last cycle. Hoping to O this time around!

Wtbam : has the Dr done any blood work on you to check your vitamin and mineral levels? I found an article that says the bcp depletes your body of b vitamins. So maybe your body needs to regain a healthy level to start ovulating? Not the pill still being in your system...

He hasnt - thats a good idea. I will ask them! I have been taking pregnacare which has b and b12.... but the only effect of that seems to be turning my pee bright yellow!

Still nothing from here anyway, other than I have tried to pick myself up and am going to think positive... I am going to use this extra time to get cracking on a diet (im not huge, im 12 stone and 5 ft 10) but would like to lowt about 8lbs to get back to my 'happy' weight!

Ya the pee thing happened to me too when I started taking b12. I think that's normal. I actually think taking it helped me lose a little weight too though because it helps your body metabolize better and produce more red blood cells. I just kinda overlooked the pee thing lol.

Your temp has been gradually increasing so maybe that is a good sign!

I hope so, but i'm not sure! I've been watching the gradual increase and wondering if it means you need to have a certain bbt to ovulate, although I'm not sure that's the case.

Wtbam - How are you feeling today? I would definitely get your bloodwork done and have them test vitamin D3 if you're deficit in it, it can cause a lot of issues!

Didn't know this about vitamin d, thanks for sharing that info Charlie!

Hi Charlie,

Thanks, feeling a bit more optimistic today and trying to think that all this time I'm not ovulating is giving me the chance to get healthy for pregnancy in terms of weight, diet and exercise!

I'm going to call the doctors today to see if they will do some bloodwork - I don't know if possible but I'd like to know my levels of Oestrogen/FSH/LH - I'll get vitamin levels done at the same time if they will let me.

Hey I found this great article! I'm now thinking maybe I will start taking some maca once I stop my pills to help me regulate my hormones back...it says Vitex is good too but requires patience as it could take 6-12 months for your body to really get it's affect. I've read some more reviews on maca and it says it is pretty instant...however, not recommended to take once you are pregnant..

So I rang the doctors today and am booked in for a blood test next week to check my LH/FSH levels. I dont think they can check oestrogen which is sad because thats the one I want to know! (Isnt this the one that stimulates ovulation?)

FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH are the main ones you want to test for.

From what I remember from high school biology 30 the body goes through a negative feedback loop. When there isn't much estrogen in your system the brain knows to release FSH to produce an egg, or AKA stimulate a follicle. LH is what triggers the egg to get released and form the corpeus luteum. OPK tests test for this surge in LH. The pituitary gland deals with these hormones by using the feedback loops to know when and which hormones to release. When the egg is ready it produces estrogen, which tells FSH to stop stimulating it, and the corpeus luteum ( the "scar" left where the egg had been) produces progesterone, which keeps the uterine lining thick for possible implantation. If pregnancy happens then HCG (which pregnancy tests test for) maintains the uterine lining like the progesterone had been. But if no pregnancy happens then the progesterone levels drop and we get AF.

That is why hormonal birth control works by using estrogen and progesterone. The pills tricks your brain to not release any FSH because you already have enough estrogen in your body, according to the brain, so you do not ovulate. The progesterone in the pill keeps us from spotting and builds the lining. Then when we have the week "break", because of the drop in progesterone, we have a "withdrawal bleed".

I find it so fascinating lol!

So...if your blood results show that you have low FSH, then your body must have too much estrogen in it. The Maca I was talking about, is a herb that actually lowers the estrogen in your body to let FSH be released...and also helps regulate other hormones as well. It says it can be taken with Vitex if you want.

If the test sees that your LH is low that could be why you aren't ovulating too! Your egg might be ready to go from FSH doing it's job But you aren't producing enough LH to actually push that sucker out into the Fallopian tube!

I hope the blood results have good news though! It will be good to know what the problem is so you can fix it :)

Wow, thank you so much for that post. I think I understand the system for ovulation a lot better now, and thank you for the link, really interesting reading.
I wonder if I should add Maca to the things I am taking, although am already taking 4 tablets a day, and hate taking tablets! (Pregnacare conception - B12, Folic Acid & Zinc, 2 x 1000mg Vitex, 1 x 750mg Metformin)

A little update. Nothing has changed here, but I have a blood test booked for Monday to check LH & FSH.

I have (as of Monday) started a diet, it's kind of a combination between weight loss, and monitoring my sugar levels (in the hope of regulating them).

I am cutting out all sugary drinks/chocolate/cakes/snacks, and have reduced the carbs I eat (and not eating them after 6pm). I have lost 2 lbs.... not feeling particularly well on it, but I think it is withdrawal..... I used to drink a LOT of lemonade and eat a lot of chocolate!

Wtbam- That's great you are working on improving your health. Wanted to suggest the website/phone app- Myfitnesspal.com.
I've used it in the past and it really helped me lose some extra weight.

How's everyone else doing? I think I'm out this month. Been having stomach cramps/pains so met with my regular doctor today and have an appt with my obgyn next week to do an ultrasound to make sure I don't have any cysts or anything! Not sure what is causing the cramps!

Can I join too ladies please? I was on the birth control patch but I believe its the same hormones as the pill. I have recently decided to try for number three so stopped my patch on Dec 23rd.
A little about me :D
I am 25 and have two gorgeous boys with my exhusband. I also have 5 angel babies. After the birth of my last son I was adamant that I was done and begged them to tie my tubes but they refused (boy im glad now) I was separated from ex two days before my section with ds2 (looooong story lol) but got together with df 6months later. Seeing him with my boys has made me really want to give him his own so we spoke a lot about it and decided now was a good time. I am terrified as ds1 was critically ill when born and ds2 was perm then I have had all the losses so it has been a huge decision.
I am completely confused about my cycles :/ I was on the implant for a year then came off that as I developed cysts. Had that removed then went in the patch a few months later after having the cysts removed. My cy les are lasting 21 days and I am not getting a proper af. 3-4 days of spotting and that's it  I have been one of these girls who get pregnant at the drop of a hat but I don't even think I am ov'ing at the moment.
Currently cd2 I think  I have had an hour of spotting today and an hour yesterday so who knows really what's going on.
Desperate to just get my :bfp: already!! Lol
before pregnancies and birth control I was very very regular. 28 day cycles and ov cd14. I never missed a period unless I was pg.
Getting really frustrated already so looking for some others to vent to and chat with while ttc :D

Wish I had never stuck a patch on! If I had known how messed my cycles would get I would never have used it lol

Anyway sorry for the ramble :/ how is everyone?

Xxx

Ps I only just realised this was ttc#1 :/ found it while searching for bcp to ttc threads. :/:/:/
