FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH are the main ones you want to test for.
From what I remember from high school biology 30 the body goes through a negative feedback loop. When there isn't much estrogen in your system the brain knows to release FSH to produce an egg, or AKA stimulate a follicle. LH is what triggers the egg to get released and form the corpeus luteum. OPK tests test for this surge in LH. The pituitary gland deals with these hormones by using the feedback loops to know when and which hormones to release. When the egg is ready it produces estrogen, which tells FSH to stop stimulating it, and the corpeus luteum ( the "scar" left where the egg had been) produces progesterone, which keeps the uterine lining thick for possible implantation. If pregnancy happens then HCG (which pregnancy tests test for) maintains the uterine lining like the progesterone had been. But if no pregnancy happens then the progesterone levels drop and we get AF.
That is why hormonal birth control works by using estrogen and progesterone. The pills tricks your brain to not release any FSH because you already have enough estrogen in your body, according to the brain, so you do not ovulate. The progesterone in the pill keeps us from spotting and builds the lining. Then when we have the week "break", because of the drop in progesterone, we have a "withdrawal bleed".
I find it so fascinating lol!
So...if your blood results show that you have low FSH, then your body must have too much estrogen in it. The Maca I was talking about, is a herb that actually lowers the estrogen in your body to let FSH be released...and also helps regulate other hormones as well. It says it can be taken with Vitex if you want.
If the test sees that your LH is low that could be why you aren't ovulating too! Your egg might be ready to go from FSH doing it's job But you aren't producing enough LH to actually push that sucker out into the Fallopian tube!
I hope the blood results have good news though! It will be good to know what the problem is so you can fix it
