Beach Bump Graduates!

hi

hadn't realised this thread was up and running already.

Nice to see news on how things are progressing with your babies.

For those of you who have switched to formula please don't beat yourself up about it. As others have said a stressful mummy is no use to their baby and therefore a happy mummy and a baby on formula is the best combination.

loving all the cute baby pictures too. I posted some on the other thread but here is one of both my boys for those of you who didn't see them.

sorry about the size - haven't worked out how to shrink them yet!!

Logan is doing fine - feeding well, sleeping well, gaining weight and his cord finally fell off today so we will have his first bath tonight hoorah. DS has been terrific with him and is always giving him kisses and telling him how much he loves him. Me being a hormonal weck I normally end up in tears when he says that as it's so touching.

I am on antibiotics at the moment for my wound although they have now decided its not an infection but a heat/sweat rash so just to keep it aired and have some gauze to keep it dry. I am to finish the antibiotics though as it will prevent an infection whilst the rash is disappearing.

All in all things going well at the moment but its still early days lol.

Sorry for the one sided post-

hv came today, N is now 8lb 15oz (her birth weight) at 15 days old- she said this was fine but I was hoping that she would be heavier- she has only gained 2oz in 5 days- does that sound ok?

Also she said I can give ebm via bottle now and that I shouldn't leave it too long- I thought 2 weeks is too early and would cause nipple confusion? Advice??

Thanks!!

Hope everyone's well and getting some sleep!!
x

Curlew, I didn't realize the site was up and running until recently either. Great picture of the boys :) Also, glad you both got discharged.

Jill's cord just fell off yesterday...a bit overdue but oh well. Now she's doing that cluster feeding you guys mentioned and I'm exhausted. Since she gained weight we relaxed on the feeding schedule and I've been feeding on demand. Since then my supply went down some so I need to pump more. I used to get about 4oz per pump and now it's down to 2-3oz. Is it normal for the supply to change in just a few days? I don't want her to go without enough, so today is pump pump pump day...haha

Doodle, Jillian's been given the bottle with expressed milk since day 5 or so (before that it was a syringe) and there's no nipple confusion. She even takes a pacifier on occasion. Hope it works for you too. It took her two weeks to get back to birth weight too and this was with a lot of effort. The pediatrician was hoping for 1 oz weight gain every day, but I think it's different for everyone.

I gave Harry EBM and FF from about 3 weeks and he had nipple confusion. Insomuch as he hated BF as it was too slow. He was a lazy little tyke! We were exclusively FF within a fortnight. I'm leaving it til the 6 week mark personally.

BV Sophie's cord came off at 9 days, Harry's took three weeks - he was starting to smell like a rotting corpse by the time the bloody thing finally came off!

Curlew FAB picture! Look at the proud big brother! How is he dealing with it all?

Kelly Harry also loves bathtime and would spend an hour a night in there if he could. He plays Octonauts in the bath - his little dialogue his hilarious!

For those of you whose babies hate baths, run a warm deep bath for yourself and take baby in with you. I do that on Saturday evenings and have Sophie and Harry in with me and she loves it as she can be completely submerged and gets skin to skin.

Thanks for the expressing advice guys! Naomi is SUCH a lazy feeder so for that reason I'm going to leave it until 6 weeks- this was my original plan- the hv threw me off a bit!

I feel a lot better knowing Naomi wasn't the only one who took 2 weeks to get back to her birth weight- thanks BV :)

I am hoping for more of a weight gain- I offer her to feed every time she's awake or cries/ shows signs etc- every opportunity I can basically so I'm hoping her weight will get better on it's own. She doesn't go longer than 3 hours between feeds and has plenty of wet and dirty nappies so I'm probably worrying over nothing!

dm - josh has been absolutely brilliant with Logan. He is such a doting big brother, loves holding him and kissing him. We thought he would be quite a caring brother because of his nature but he has totally exceeded our expectations. We had one time when he said about us loving Logan more than him but that was cause DH had replaced the wallpaper on his phone (which was just a standard one) with a picture of Logan. He now has the picture I have posted instead, he just didn't have one of the two of them at the time:dohh:

doodles - I am leaving expressing til Logan is 4 weeks as I want to make sure we are in a good bf routine before introducing it. Josh was dual fed BF and EBM at 2 weeks and he was fine but he was a hungry monster and ate quickly. Logan is a grazer so can nod off when feeding and I just want to make sure he has a grip on it all before EBM.

bv - good luck with the pumping.

Have just updated in Beach bumps- Tor has had a baby girl :)

Curlew- Naomi falls asleep while feeding too- sometimes she's fine, other times it's a constant battle to keep her feeding!

Doodle - Elliot was still 1.5oz short of being back to his birthweight at 3 weeks but i was told this was ok so think 2 weeks is definately ok. In elliot's red book he is on the 25th centile line and was told anything on those lines is ok. Also for introducing bottles I am also going to leave it 6 weeks (only another 2 weeks away eek!).

Elliot has to have a scan on the 1st Aug (as I had clicky hips) and it says to bring a bottle of milk but he won't be 6 weeks then so not sure what to do! I might call and ask - not sure why I need to take milk for him to a scan?!

SB they are gorgeous pics of Katie! Lovely eyes!

Curlew what a fab pic of Logan and his big brother! It's nice that he's so in love with the new addition!

Elliot's slept for nearly 4 hours straight today which is a record and it's because he's on his tummy. I know that's not advised these days but I think while I'm watching him in the day it's ok. Just the night time we've got to figure out!

God knows? Harry had his hips checked at 6 weeks and I don't remember having to take milk along with me.

freckles - I'd be interested to hear why you need to take a bottle as Logan will have a scan too for clicky hips as I have hip dysplasia and need to have a hip resurfacing operation now I am no longer pregnant. Congrats on Elliot sleeping for four hours.

Doodles - thanks for the update on Tor - have just posted my congrats. Hopefully it will be the start of the next batch as a few are overdue now.

Hi ladies, quick question - how do you know if you have drained a breast when feeding? Ajay seems to fall aslseep and get bored/stop latching on one breast and then is still hungry in 5 minutes so I then offer the same first breast but he tends to prefer the second. This may be a totally stupid question but can he drain a breast? Thanks.

I give my nipples a couple of quick squeezes. If the milk still flows easily I carry on. If its an effort to get anything out, i switch. It always takes longer than I think it will x

he could just be being a lazy bugger as the foremilk flows more quickly than the hindmilk ;)

True Linds - he is a lazy feeder! I'll try that as I'm not sure if he just has all of these 20 minutes feeds and then wants more after 5 minutes. Worth a try! Thanks so much x

Also Soph gets really cross if she cant get anything out. When I'm trying to settle her after a night feed I do tend to stick her on the other boob so she can get nice and full.

Here's my two babies tonight

So sweet Linds! Bless them.

Wishing everyone a good night with loads of sleep..... prob see you guys on here in the middle of the night! xx

DM, adorable photo :) Also, that nursing cover works great (you had asked me about it a while back). I tested it out over the weekend and it works so much better than a blanket. I highly recommend it :)

My MIL stopped by for a visit and just left. I totally forgot I had laundry in the dryer...I should have taken advantage of her wanting to hold Jill, so I could get some laundry folded and put away. I did do the foot mold for the picture frame, so at least some progress. Now I'm marathon feeding...Jill is a hungry bear today.
