Beach Bump Graduates!

Hi all, sorry I've been off for a day or two. I had the most horrible news, and I wasn't sure if I should post it on here.... My cousin's baby died. I won't say any more as it's always upsetting even if you don't know the person, but just explains why I've been feeling really sad.

Caz, I agree with the others, it's really hard to know how much they want, I swear Leo is so greedy he'd just drink and drink whatever I gave him, so I do have to stop him after125 mls, let him burp (despite his protests) and just let him calm down and REALISE that he's actually full. If he's still rooting around and crying after all that then I give him about 40mls more. Sometimes he still protests after that! So we start the burping calming down process again. At this stage I usually give him his dummy! Lol.

Jen - great news on the sleep!! I feel quite well rested today too, we had a good night. Of course he'll probably give me hell today now!

Freckles, sorry Hun I will defer to others on the reflux question, I'm really not sure!

Oh Simmy! That is horrible news! Of course you can post that here...we are all here to support each other through the good times and bad... If you want to talk about it you can always pm me... :flower:

Same here Simmy - always here to talk. Was it a young baby? What an awful thing to happen - I hope your cousin has a good support network :hugs:

Freckles - sounds like reflux - can't remember if you FF or BF but if they push the boob or I guess bottle away and cry during the feeding it can be another sign. They will also cry after feeding and try to get more from you about 5 minutes later - it's not because they are hungry but instead they are trying to soothe the burning sensation.
Your doctor will prescribe infant gaviscon which does work but can make them constipated. I only give it once a day at bedtime as I have to give it in a bottle plus I am hoping it willrectify naturally as her digestion develops. She isn't a bad case though compares to many so I feel like I can leave the medicine a bit. I think some babies need it for each feed though.

N suffers reflux she has infant gaviscon, it works really well for her. She has it in every feed. She was projectile vomiting constantly, out her nose too. She would choke on her vomit hours after a feed as the sick was coming back up. She was in a lot of distress after feeds scrunching up her body, she made lots of gagging motions.

Thats about all that I can remember about it. The gaviscon works really well for her and we rarely have any symptoms of reflux anymore until one of us forget to put it in her bottle. :)

Have you tried feeding him in an upright position, keeping him sitting upright for atleast 20 minutes after a feed and elevating the end of the matress so he is sleeping at an angle, all these things may help too. :) Im no expert on it but this is what helped Niamh out so maybe they will help Elliott too :)

Simmy - big hugs to you and your family. That is terrible news - if we can do anything at all, please feel free to post or PM me too. xxxx

Freckles - sorry but I don't really know anything about reflux but hope some of the other girls can help.

Wow so much to catch up on..

Sorry have been AWOL last couple of days ,been at my mums with no computer and the battery went on my phone too and i didnt have my charger. Doh!

Anyway, gonna try and catch up!

Hann, so sorry to hear about Gregs accident, that must have really shaken you both up! Also great re Annabelles weight gain!

Simmy, great re the weigh in! Leos doing well! Also im with you, if our babies are healthy, gaining weight and thriving we shouldnt feel guilty how its done whether BF or FF or anything else. Some people should just keep their opinions to themselves
Just read re your cousin.. what terrible news!!! We are all here for you if you want to talk :hugs:

Caz, re the NCT girl who commented on your help network... what the others said, she is just jealous, there is nothing wrong with having some support and you shouldnt be made to feel guilty about it!

Jenni, sorry cant help you re the BF im afraid, it really is a mindfield though isnt it! Re the sterilisng.. we have a steam steriliser and i make my bottles up in advance usually. they get sterilsed after every use, there are people that would say we shouldnt do it this way but its worked for us. If we go out we either take cooled boiled water plus the powder seperataly to mix when we are ready to use or a ready made carton. It works for us doing it this way. Even supernsanny says to do bottles in advance and she is my hero! lol

Curlew, again great re Logans weight gain, all our babies seem to be doing pretty well which is great. I know the feeling re the ironing, i dont get how one little person can create so much extra washing! lol

Linds, really agree with you re the too much pressure to BF thing. As long as baby is fed and healthy who cares which way!

Doodles, also agree with what you said! Im sorry you have been finding things difficult though, hope the meeting on friday helps.

Tor, great to hear from you, happy belated birthday!

GW, I agree with you, everyone is so supportive on here!

Sherri, hope everything goes well at the hospital, i agree, its sad we have lost people and the posts are less frequent, from my point of view during pregnancy i didnt have the energy to do anything but now there doesnt seem to be enough hours in the day! lol

BV, Hope the portrait goes well!

Starry, great to hear from you, sounds like Daniel is doing great!

Caz, re your formula amount question,, Harrison is currently offered 5oz at every feed but usually takes around 4 of that. When he starts to take the full 5oz regularly we will up it to 6 if that makes sense?

Clare, i agree with you i find im in a permenant cycle of feeding and sterilisng! lol

Freckles, great to ghear from you, sorry cant assist with your question im afraid im clueless on that subject!

Ok so this will make you all laugh.. Out with my parents yesterday we went to a Thai resturant early evening, had Harrison in the pram, all fine, had the meal, ordered coffee, then he needed feeding, i got him out, put him on my knee, started feeding.. he then pulled his poo face and started farting on me.. oh dear.. well my hand was on his bottom and i could then hear and feel poo shooting out of him, which was quite funny untill i realised it had gone EVERWHERE! Was up his back, on his socks, all over my WHITE LINEN TROUSERS! lol i was mortified and Alan and my parents couldnt stop laughing! There was no where to change him in the resturaunt which was very busy at the time so i wrapped a blanket around him and me Alan and Harrison made a swift exit whilst my parents got the bill, we had to change him in the car and it really wasnt pleasant! When my parents got to the car they said there was also a pile of poo on the floor under the table which they tried to discretly pick up! I dont think we will be going back there for a while, i had to sit in the car in my knickers all the way home, its definalty one to embarress Harrison with when he is older!

I have a question if anyonecis able to help please. I am going to London on Thursday and taking Annabelle. It's a work thing and not too sure about BF there even with a cover up so thinking of taking an expressed bottle with me. Is it better to take it cold and heat it up when I'm out or take it warm and hope it stays warm in my bottle holder? I'm guessing probably the cold option but wasn't sure. Thanks!

Ha ha just read your post mel! He must have had a lot of poo stored up in him to create that mess! Brilliant story!

Hann do you have a milk dispenser? IMO its best ti take the sterilised bottle with the water in and the powder ready measured out seperate. Then when you are ready to use, mix together and warm it. If you arent going to be long then take it warm but any longer than an hour then i would do the 1st thing. We have had to use bottles a lot whilst out and about and this works best for us and is the safest way.

Thanks Mel - I'm not taking formula it will be expressed BF, but sounds like I'm best to take it cold and warm it up.

Haha Mel what a funny story!!! Elliot has a habit of doing explosive poo's at inapropriate times but maybe not as bad as Harrison's lol!

Simmy sorry to hear your cousins news. We are here if you need to talk or want to write anything down. :hugs:

Thanks for the advice on reflux. Hann im BFing. Took Elliot to the docs and they've prescribed gaviscon. Am hoping he will take it from the spoon rather than having to faff round with bottles... Thats if he takes water at all...

When do I give it? Doc notes on front say before a feed but leaflet says after!! It also says a sachet at every feed but no more than 6 times in 24 hours... But he feeds more than 6 times a day

I haven't had time to properly catch up, but I did a quick skim. I'll do a proper catch up later if she naps a while. Yesterday she took a 5hr nap in the afternoon, which was nuts. I got so much done, but now I'm wishing I would have napped instead. She only slept for 1-3hr blocks last night. She would wait until I fell back to sleep and started dreaming before waking me up again. Thus, I'm in a bit of a zombie state at the moment.

Simmy, I am so sorry to hear about your cousin's baby. What terrible news. What happened, if you don't mind my asking? If it's too much to talk about, I understand.

Freckles, hope Elliot feels better soon!

Mel, that was such a hysterical story. I loved it! I'm sure you'll love telling it to Harrison one day :)

Hann, I would take the BF cover with you just in case. I have no clue about how to transport expressed milk. I've been taking it in a cooler, but heating it up on the go can be tricky. If you stop by a cafe, maybe they could give you a mug full of hot water to stick the bottle in or you could bring some in a thermos. We're going for a 4hr drive to see family next weekend and we'll have to come up with a good way to bring expressed milk with us. I'm curious to know what everyone says on the topic.

The portrait session went well yesterday. My MIL was so happy that she could be there, so I'm glad I rescheduled so she could come. Jill was in such a great mood and cooperated for about 40min. They took 16 shots, which is very rare for a baby this young. I couldn't get her to smile, but the pictures did turn out really well. I was only going to buy a few sheets of one pose with a coupon for $10, but my MIL wanted more pictures, so she bought a whole package including the CD, which was awesome. It was really nice of her because it was a lot more than $10, even with the sales they were running.

So, quick question for those of you who have the Moby wrap. I bought it thinking I could breastfeed in it, but the directions are nuts. The whole thing is so long and tough to handle. I put Jill in the newborn hug hold, but it didn't feel right. It was really tight and she was so squirmy. Maybe I used the wrong type of hold...I don't know. I'm really out of it, so focusing on the manual is not happening today. Any advice for how to make it work?

After posting I realized that I attached a picture of Jill in a costume and my avatar is her in another costume. You must think that I like to torture the poor girl with funny costumes for my entertainment...hehe.

It's such a cute photo BV! Glad the shoot went well!
I think I'll do as you say and take both.

Freckles - hopefully Elliot is more accommodating than Annabelle - will help he is older - but I had no chance with a spoon and gaviscon! I tried it with spoon, two types of syringe, bottle of water and then expressed milk. The only one I can get her to take is the expressed milk and much like you I can't be bothered with all the sterilising plus I like actually feeding from the breast from a closeness perspective so I just give it once a day. In the day time I just deal with the puking and the crying from it!
As Elliot he will probably take the water though! Good luck!

Thanks, Hann! I got a ton of photos, but don't want to fill up the whole thread :) Speaking of which, I took a picture of her in the moby wrap. I finally got it to work and she likes it. Victory is mine!

I haven't mastered the side position in the sling (not got a moby). She likes being walked with her face to me though.

It's just occurred to me that I smell of baby sick! How attractive I must be!

:haha:

Me too! We should start a club. It's 4pm on a Friday and I haven't showered  I'm waiting for my husband to be done with work or for Jill to take a nap...whichever happens first. The wrap is great, but I don't think it's a good idea to shower with it
