if its so great to use on a baby, why are you all of a sudden upset they use it on animals? Arent your babies more precious than animals and THATS whats perked up your ears

Urgh, I'm not going to argue with you over this. The whole topic perked up my ears or else I wouldn't be posting... But yeah I do use johnsons on my baby and I do think it's cruel that they test it on animals (I think all testing on animals is cruel and doesn't need to happen, but unfortunatley most products at the moment are tested on animals so its really hard to avoid - tho that is a whole different story!). Sorry, does that make me a bad Mum??I dont think so stop trying to cause a debate.

Blimey.... We are not testing it on our babies are we, talk about argument starting.. As far as we are concerned it is safe to use on our babies, but when tested on animals well that is cruel and a totally different stories.... does that make us bad Mum's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think vanessayogini was just answering the initial question and maybe people are being a bit harsh.

We stopped using Johnson's products only because Megan's got excema. We switched everything to fragrance free (laundry soap, body soap, lotions & creams) and her excema is looking so much better!

I don't know why people are being so hostile to Vanessa. She only provided some potentially useful information which directly answered the OP's question which, if you are going to be picky about it, a lot of the "I use it and I am fine" responses didn't!
If you want to disregard the information she posted, then do so, but don't shout her down for providing it.
And yes, I agree, a lot of things are constantly being flagged up as bad for us, or possibly carcinogenic, but do you not think this might be an inevitabl result of living in a world where we make such heavy use of strong chemicals and man-made materials. It's like asbestos - we thought it was great for a while and look what happened with that. We can't wrap ourselves up in cotton wool but we can try to eliminate potentially harmful things from our children's lives where it is relatively easy to do so. That is what Vanessa is suggesting - shame on you Vanessa!

No one is shouting and being harsh, I was just saying that it seems EVERYTHING is now causes cancer and tbh it is driving me nuts, you can't eat a mars bar without someone saying ooo that could cause cancer, what I was saying wasn't directly pointed at her but the cancer awareness for Johnsons

Bad? Who said that? LOL

Personally we cant use them as LO is allergic to Johnsons stuff but thats just her!

No I agree with you, I use talc lol! I was more referring to a couple of posts which imo got a little bit personal and I couldn't see why, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Oh yeah of course, there is also a big riot about using talc!! lol, I think either way we shouldn't use anything man made, but it is a matter of having to. everything has a disadvantages and advantages, just a matter of choosing what is right for you and baby xx

I used Johnsons baby wipes when my daughter was born and they brought her out in a rash. I use boots sensitive wipes and simple bath products now.

Omar got cradle cap frm Johnson's shampoo & allergy frm the lotion. But I love their baby soap- (it clears his drooling chin spots), & baby oil is very mild.

Hi - was it definitely from the lotion and shampoo? Ive noy heard of this before... just asked my wife - neither has she.

Yup, I'm sure. I only used the shampoo once, & his hair was covered with craddle cap the next day. He was 2 mnths old (I was using baby soap before), when we switched to the body shop baby shampoo, we never had craddle cap. As for the lotion (the pink thing), once I applied it on his skin & started massaging it, he got really red patches, it only faded after 1 full day. I'm also allergic to Johnson's lotion. I tried several other lotions (I was obssessed about baby lotions) & they were all ok. Now I just stick to baby oil (Cheaper & more convenient)

I found the wipes really hurt my little mans bottom and balls - to the point they were raw - now I use cotton wool and water but boots sensitive wipes are ok, Im just scared to use them too much as I dont want him to be sore. We were given loads of Johnsons stuff as gifts and have used the bath bubbles and softwash and he has gorgeous skin. I dont use the lotion as I remember using it to take my make up off years ago and it stung my eyes, we use the Weleda range of creams and massage oil. I wont be buying Johnsons when we run out of the gifts as I would rather use more natural products, however as he hasnt reacted to it badly we will use it up (never look a gift horse in the mouth!!) I wasnt aware they tested on animals, and I wasnt aware of the research suggesting it bad. Personally I think as mums we are all big enough to make our own decisions, and us, and ONLY us (and our partners), should decide whats best for our babies.

Oh how this thread made me laugh€ for gods sake who cares you should be happy you have happy healthy children at least we have freedom to buy toiletries. When I think of poor woman who can't afford to feed their babies in other country's it makes this thread seem futile. Honestly!

I don't use johnsons shampoo cos I found with my eldest it made her hair really greasy! It smells lovely tho so I was a bit gutted! I can't remember what we swapped to, but she ended up with really bad cradle cap that even medicated shampoo and olive oil couldn't shift! It's come back again now and that's using vosene shampoo! At the end of the day if your LOs susceptible to it then there's not much you can do!! I love the bedtime bath stuff too!

Tommy is a johnsons baby and hes had no problems with it, right down to the fact he used Johnsons extra sensitive wipes from birth
I think the point with not using johnsons (and lots of other big name brands - barring the moral issue of animal testing) is that the fact they have lots of chemicals means there is a higher chance of reactions to it. ts doesnt mean ur baby will react, just that it might.
Which tbh is quite obviouse..anyone should realise that from the sheer fact that if your baby has very sensitive skin then u shouldnt use them u should use mild organic stuff.
As for the cancer stuff - tbh these thousands of articles claiming everything causes cancer really wind me up (no attack on u vanessa, i do appreciate u providing the information).
What is cancer? It is the mutation of cells. What causes cells to mutate? ANYTHING that doesnt sit right with your body! The only way to avoid anything that could encourage cancer is to sit in a dark empty room layed out like a starfish forever.
And even then ur gonna have possible inherited issues
Cancer is just such an easy buzzword for anyone to jump on - anything with any chemical, natural or not might maybe possible perhaps cause cancer if your body freaks out at it. Yeh ok, some things might make more people react than others but it doesnt mean that thing inherintly causes cancer.
Baby oil actually helped clear up tommys cradle cap, and the wipes clear up any baby acne a treat. Sometimes its good, sometimes its bad but like 90% of these things it dependss on the person.
If when u use a brand of baby lotions or oils you baby reacts badly - dont use them.
If when u use them your babys ok - do use them.
Thats my general rule, and its working pretty well so far :) xxx

I found Niamh reacts really badly to a lot of J products, and the wipes are just crap!! But I find the baby oil a treat, clears up her poor wee red bum a treat!

I don't like using the baby lotion on her as I use it to remove my waterproof mascara.

doctor/scientists are the ones who say that chemicals are ok and they wont entertain the idea of natural remedies. It would put them out of a job

I have to say this is the one statement that has irked me! What a massive over-generalisation! Many doctors / scientists wont entertain some natural remedies because the science doesn't stack up - ie they dont work! The same can be said for some man-made products. That is what the testing is for and why the scientific process is so useful.

And just to mention: all natural things are made up of chemicals as well! In fact, everything is. We are made of chemicals! "Natural remedies" aren't necessarily the fluffy cure-all that they are espoused to be. If (heaven forbid) I get some dreaded disease, I'll much prefer the tested "chemicals" to cure me than some homeopathic / "natural" alternative.

Sorry OP, that was totally off the point!

In response to your thread, we use the top to toe wash and the baby bath. We tried the shampoo but it dried Rebecca's head out so we have avoided it since. We've used it because we were bought it as a gift. When we run out I'll probably but whichever relevant product is on special offer!
