Yes, a luteal cyst is not so uncommon. But usually if you have it, your period is delayed till it ruptures (in a few days up to a few months). If that takes too long, you need progesterone treatment to get your period.Weebles, I've read about something called lutenized unruptured follicle syndrome. You can get a temp shift and all the hormonal changes, but the egg is never actually released. I'm sure thats not the case for you. Your doc is probably just doing his due diligence
