Stopping BCP to TTC***Updates & Progress/Noted Changes Since Stopping BCP***24BFPs***

Wantabean2, Welcome! It doesn't matter that you aren't ttc#1, the more input everyone can get about coming off bc, the better! I've never been on the patch so unfortunately I have no input, but I assume it's similar to the pill in that it can take several months for your body to readjust to making it's own hormones. Best of luck to you and welcome!

Thank you very much for the warm welcome twinkie. U have googled high and low trying to find someone going through the same stuff and not much came up lol
when i came off bcp first time round i got pg straight away and then with ds2 i was still on the pill when i fell pg so i have prob came into this a bit naive thinking it would be like that again.

The patch is the same hormones as pill but i think it might be a higher dose.

Are you having any symptoms yet twinkie?

Xxx

Welcome wantabean2! :)

Good morning/afternoon everyone! Well AF finally showed up this morning Cramps and all. I am really starting to hate her. LOL.

How is everyone doing so far?

A little update. Nothing has changed here, but I have a blood test booked for Monday to check LH & FSH.

I have (as of Monday) started a diet, it's kind of a combination between weight loss, and monitoring my sugar levels (in the hope of regulating them).

I am cutting out all sugary drinks/chocolate/cakes/snacks, and have reduced the carbs I eat (and not eating them after 6pm). I have lost 2 lbs.... not feeling particularly well on it, but I think it is withdrawal..... I used to drink a LOT of lemonade and eat a lot of chocolate!

Great plan Wtbam! I am doing the same though I usually don't get to eat dinner until about 630pm. Withdraw is always the hardest. I hate it. usually lasts about 2 weeks for me.

Glad you got the make an appointment for the drs too! I hope you can get everything tested. :)

Didn't know this about vitamin d, thanks for sharing that info Charlie!

Of course! A lot of people don't know about it, the only reason I do is that my mom went through Breast Cancer not very long ago and her dr explained the benefits of vitamin D, not just in helping to prevent Cancer, but it helps with everything in your body. It was very eye opening. the majority of the world is Vitamin D deficient. Which is why we see an increase in sickness, and other health problems these days.

Still no update here, nearly 100 days off birth control. I checked my blood sugar today with a little machine today and it was fine, so im pretty sure now that I am not insulin resistant, and therefore the metformin may not work!

I had lots of creamy cm yesterday but not ewcm. Opk's are frustratingly darker but not positive!

Here is a pic of the progression (the camera makes it look lighter!)

I hope this is the start of something but not holding out too much hope!

Looked at that picture again, they look a lot darker in real life! But still not positive... my cervix is still soft, can't check my CM (sorry TMI) because we BD'd and I can never tell the difference between leftover sperm and EWCM!

In other news, after 1 week of the diet I have lost 2 lbs, and 25 cms from my upper arms/thighs/breasts/waist/stomach combined! Woo hoo! Not sure it will help but desperate to try anything!

Wtbam- congrats on the 2lbs! That's exciting! AF is not helping me stick to my diet at all lol. But I've been pretty good considering.

I can never tell between sperm and EWCM either. I hope something happens for you soon!

Wtbam I think your temps look like you're leveling out now at least :) my temps are not that low when I ov and I also don't get ewcm (at best it's creamy watery) so I'm crossing my fingers for you something happens soon :)

Sorry about AF Charlie, I know the feeling I just eat anything and everything that's bad for me when she shows up!

Thanks Patience, that gives me hope!

Do any of you girls use facebook (and would like a buddy on there?). I know there's quite a lot of anonymity on here, I guess I'm just looking for a TTC buddy I can really get to know!

I have just yesterday increased the metformin from 750mg to 1500mg, so we will see what happens, and of course await the results of my bloods!

Feeling so gutted. I only have some of my results (slightly incapable doctor receptionist!).

My TSH (Thyroid) is low at 0.020 (but perhaps that could be to do with taking Metformin?)

My Testosterone is high at 2.1 (indicative of PCOS)
My Gonadotrophin (Think this is FSH?) is high (she couldn't tell me what) indicative of PCOS

I feel like this is never going to happen for me :(

Wtbam - I feel the same way. I go in for blood work friday morning to get some results. I stopped taking BCP 7 months ago and cycles have been irregular since - 72 days, 43 days, and I'm currently on day 71 and counting.

Have you been using ovulation strips? I have for the last 15 days and every single one is almost positive (not quite) but just about. Anyone know why this is?

This is because in pcos you have a constantly high level of LH in your system.

Amazingly, I had a level of 20 on my bloods, yet I have never had a fully positive opk!

Some opk's say they will not work for women with pcos. You could also try a lower sensitivity?

Thank you for replying. I feel so alone at the moment. It all feels hopeless.

My game plan is to do much more exercise, cut right down on the carbs, stick to taking the metformin and vitex.

If nothing has happened in another 3 months im going to try clomid. My worry about trying clomid too soon is that my eggs will be poor quality leading to miscarriage. At least 3 months should hopefully give me some time to grow some healthy ones!

Xxx

Wtbam, I'm sorry the receptionist wasn't helpful! I hate that! Do you have an appointment to speak to your dr about your results?

This WILL happen for you! I just know it! :) I'm sorry you feel alone, and I wish I could be more helpful. Have you read "Making babies". I'm reading it right now, it does have some very useful information. Definitely worth reading in my opinion.

I think your game plan is great so far! in my experience with everything, when you start focusing on something else, what you really want to happen will. :)

Wtbam-I've done a fair amount of looking into diet and fertility (I don't mean dieting, just nutritional intake in general). There was a study that showed women who are high protein and low carb diets were more likely to conceive naturally, or without significant medical interventions. High protein is at least 25% of your total daily caloric intake should be from protein calories. So for me, my daily calorie intake if I don't work out is 1,760, to get at least 25% protein calories, I need to eat at least 110 grams of protein daily! And if I workout, I should be adding additional protein to account for that as well. Also, there is a link between non and low fat dairy products and increased infertility. So if you are dairy person, you should try to consume the full fat dairy products and avoid the others while ttc. If you are calorie conscious, you can return to the low fat and non fat versions as soon as you're preggo! I wish I knew where I read that, but the numbers were very promising in both of these studies, just by changing the protein or the dairy issue, so doing both definitely can't hurt right?! Hoping things start to work out for you soon! FX'd :)

AF arrived today, 3 days early, onto the next cycle for me :(

Awe sorry about AF Twinkie and sorry about the test results Wtbam. Hope things start looking up. Twinkie...since your cycles are working what other things are you doing to help conceive? Is it timing of BD?

I check CP and CM and I'm starting to temp. And yes we time BDíng near O time. I don't use OPK's because my cycles have been relatively normal and I usually can feel some O pains to help confirm it along with temping. Also, to help keep regular cycles, I take both vitamin d and a b complex daily.

Hi Twinkie! Thanks so much for that. There is too much to take in, and there is a lot of conflicting information!

My other test results were:

FSH 7.1
LH 20

The doctor called me and told me that these were symptomatic of PCOS. He was pretty useless really, as I knew that already, I wanted to know what is actually CAUSING those hormones and how to rectify it! It seems that GP's don't know much in specific about these conditions!

You are very welcome Wtbam, wish I could offer more, but I wanted to make sure I mentioned those few things. There have been several studies on both things I mentioned and it sounds promising that it can help if other problems are too severe. I always think dietary changes are more than worth it to finally get our family started. Best of luck and I'm sorry the doc didn't offer you more info :(

I know! Every time I get a craving, I say to myself, don't because this is for our family! And when I don't have the energy or motivation to get moving, I think, come on, this is for that little baby you will be holding in your arms...!
