US - new season of 16 & Pregnant

I know, what a jackass!

Back to the person who mentioned breastfeeding. It seems like the majority of Teen Moms don't breastfeed and I've wondered why. Some try to BF but end up FF. Do you think they find BF embarrassing? Especially cuz most of them still live at home (mom or dad might walk in). Recalling my mid-teenage self, the thought of having to expose my boobs for any reason was mortifying.

I don't know. It was just always something I noticed. Maybe lack of knowledge? Embarrassment factor? Think its gross or unnatural? Afraid of the pain?

I just got caught up with last nights episode. I get the FOBs frustration. I don't think he wanted the baby ALONE at his house, he just wanted mom and baby there.

Which honestly it made sense. You are right next door and baby would get her own private room, lots more space, and her little niece could have taken her old room and moved out of that tent! Poor little girl. :nope:

Regarding why the majority of teen moms didn't BF - I would think it was the convenience of FF. When I gave birth to my first daughter, it seemed impossible for her to latch on. I was completely drained from already not sleeping and my patience was wearing thin. But when she had a bottle in her mouth, she immediately latched and ate - and went to sleep faster.

I feel horribly guilty for not trying to BF harder :nope: So I really hope I can this time around.

Thats a good point since most of these girls have to return to school just a week or two after giving birth.

I'm determined to at least pump. I nkow some babies don't latch, and I know I will try as hard as possible. But at least if I have to do bottles I can try and give breast milk!

speaking as someone who is struggling with latch issues right now.. I can easily see why many many moms give up on BFing. Right now I'm nursing AND pumping then feeding my LO with the milk I pump. Its EXHAUSTING.. and quite expensive to rent/buy a pump right after birth.
Then there are those who have bad latches and end up with cracked and bleeding nipples.
I think it would be impossible to BF if you have to go back to school in a couple weeks, it takes time to establish milk supply.

I guess what I was trying to get at was that a lot of them decide before the baby is even born that they aren't going to BF. Having to go right back to school makes sense, though.

I would think most hospitals would encourage BFing as much as possible, when you have the baby. So I'm sure most of, if not all, the teen moms have tried to BF at least one point in time.

It really depends on where you are in the country and what your local hospital's policies are. I'd also think that they'd be worried about pushing it too hard, so if you say you want to formula feed, they may just accept that without arguing or pushing for BFing.

^ True. I wonder if the hospital accepted not trying to BF, would they supply the formula or require the mother to?

They supply it
If the mother wanted a specific brand of formula, she'd have to supply it.

I say this since they had to give my baby some formula in the NICU and they had it on hand in ready-to-feed bottles.

I only got like 20 minutes in before I had to head to bed with a bad headache. But yeah she already seemed pretty bad!

I mean who goes off and leaves their 16 year old daughter to fend for themselves for days at a time?

....and then asks her anorexic daughter to go on a diet with her.......

Omg, and making her boyfriend pay 300 bucks a month in rent when he works part time!?

And then saying "well your staying here too" referring to her 17 year old daughter. Uhm, no thats YOUR daughter and your responsibility, you don't make her pay rent when she's under 18.

And they are paying for everything for the baby and buying their own groceries. I can see needing help with the extra water or light bill, but 300 bucks a month is a bit much.

And then the heat gets shut off in the middle of winter. $300 is more than enough to pay the heating bill, mom.

Yeah I know.

But what REALLY got to me was when her mom was telling the Dr that Kayla should be eating alone and family means are not THAT important. :dohh:

not about bf but does anyone know why season 3 episode 2 i think about the girl who had twin boys wont allow you to watch it? I heard mtv took it off because that girl got pregnant on purpose just to be on the show is it true?
