I know all about your dilemma Phoebe. Mine all have my ex's surname, and to be honest It doesn't bother me. Surnames hold no weight in the eyes of the law, this is a myth. So its down to personal preference. I assumed I would marry my ex, so went for giving them his surname, I think he would have also been very offended if I didn't. The ability for a father to make lawful decisions about the child is known as parental responsibility. All mine were born after the rules changed in December 2003, before this unmarried fathers did not have automatic parental responsibility as in MC's case. Now if the father registers the birth with you, they ARE granted parental responsibility. If there comes a time where this is no longer appropriate, you could have this taken away from him.
